As Gary mentioned… the main thing is the overtakes on the hills. Might only be one overtake needed but it can make a massive difference to the next couple of miles of alpine pass
Autobahn thing is overplayed and if you’re with a group,who regularly drive together not an issue

If my gearbox comes apart I'd like to add a high fifth cruising gear for this reason. My 3.2 with 230hp gives better fuel economy than my 2.2. The 2.2 still beats the Turbo though

Pft. I’ve got a car that’s chuffing along at about 7500rpm at 80mph.

It would be great Matt, just try and make sure you come out of the bends not too far off cam .. Genuinley it would make a great car for this kind of trip , if maybe somewhat thirsty. Comfy for the touring side and can pick up its heals when you want to give it some.
All this talk though is very dependant on how you drive these kind of roads and what kind of experience you want. A normal drive and any porsche would be great. Attacking each hill like a trackday / hill climb is a very different thing .. although you mountain bike too Matt so I'd imagine that downnhilling buzz is what youd also be after in the car on the twisties

Indeed, but the little 4 pot starts to build oil temp on the motorway cruising above 80mph...
