Current insurer of choice
Hi all, need to insure my old Caterham and wondered what the current recommendations are for insurance companies? I use Lancaster on the 911, but currently that's a Markerstudy policy and there seems to be some unhappiness with them.
Thanks
Graham

You'll get almost as many suggestions as replies - I've used Hagerty, Classic Line, Lancaster, RH, Heritage, etc & go with whichever company offers the best deal at renewal time ...

You never know how good any of them are until you make a claim - so I would give more credence to people's recommendations where they actually had a successful/hassle-free/straightforward claim ...

Re: Current insurer of choice
All true.
Hagerty for me for years on the 911, but on the back of that I have the race Lola and trailer, renewal invitation arrived 2 days ago, £356 for all, agreed values on 911 and Lola, 3000 miles on the 911 I should add.

Re: Current insurer of choice
Thanks both. I tried three - Hagerty, A-plan and Classicline. On the basis that Classicline quoted £205 and the other two had me on hold for 10 minutes each before I gave up, Classicline have got the business.
Re: Current insurer of choice
Mine are a mixture of Classicline ( free breakdown recovery inc Europe) and Adrian Flux more basic policies..but all with agreed valuations.
My Classicline policies have risen slightly, my AF policies have both fallen by 7% this year. Go figure ?
As with all classic insurances you need to do a bit of ringing round (as comparison sites don’t cater ) and don’t accept the renewal price you get

Re: Current insurer of choice
Having just had my 993 wiped out by 2 youths in a non fault accident! Was with classicline who had the policy with Equity Red Star. Agreed valuation in my account in 5 working days minus £500 excess which I am claiming back as part of my personal injury claim!

Re: Current insurer of choice
Thought my experience of Hagerty today might be of interest:
Invitation for renewal, 911 AV £60K and race car Lola AV £25K = £389 (was £371 last year)
Inquired about increasing the Lola to £50K as the value of it's engine/box/chassis have rocketed.
So, 911 @ £60K and Lola @ £50K, new premium now £423.
Thus increasing the AV on the Lola x 2 cost just £34!
All paid.

Quite right - premiums are irrelevant - it’s all about claims.Lightweight_911 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 9:27 am .

I had a lot of hassle with Hegarty when my 74 2.7 was stolen nearly 10;years ago.
They eventually paid out OK but declined to take on my next 911……
I have been with Chubb for last five years - great service - one accident and several breakdown claims handled to my satisfaction.
We currently have seven vehicles insured with them - premium very competitive!

How did you get insured with Chubb? Didn't think you could go direct? I used to have a chubb policy through Locktons but they switched to Aviva this year.

Re: Current insurer of choice
I've been with RH Specialist for what must be at least 15 years. One claim when my garage was broken into, good to deal with.

Re: Current insurer of choice
Had been with Adrian Flux for circa 7 vehicles over 10 years but they refused to cover my 993 and given I was on the chaps driveway to buy it thinking it would be a shoe in was a pain!
Have moved both to Lockton. Agreed value, anyone over 35 can drive both and I can drive anything not owned by family fully comp. Suited aside from European roadside being included which I already have elsewhere ‘free’ which is a waste. A little bit more than had I split but I just email a named contact and he is straight back, and also effectively covered one for 13 months so I could the renewal dates….not cheap but happy so far.

Re: Current insurer of choice
And with Lockton you get trackday cover on PCGB organised trackdays, which is mostly why I use them.
