I have had one of them on my car for 6 or 7 years and they are fantastic! Mine is about to go off to Wosp for a rebuild and update.

Next job is some new tyres and checking on possible sources of the ‘wobble’ that a lot of early 911s get at about 75/80mph.

I’ve put a new pair of tyres on the front and had the 4000 mile old rears balanced.

As I’m putting them on I’m checking the run out of hubs/discs and the wheels themselves.

LH front first is showing a max of 0.1mm on the hub and then 0.65mm on the rim. I might try rotating the wheel on the studs to see if I can offset the wheel run out to the hub high spot. But of course it might be that the 0.1 on the small hub is exaggerated by the time it gets to the rim.

LH rear is pretty much zero all round, but as I was rotating the wheels I did notice the driveshaft has a small elliptical motion, it is on full droop so the might just be an effect of the CV joints.

Worth checking it again with it jacked up on the trailing arms, just for a sanity check/peace of mind.

Agreed, that’s the plan but ran out of time tonight. Hope they are all ok!

For no apparent reason my '70 mph wobble' stopped and I had done nothing to the car.
I measured everything to death on all corners and got nowhere.
This time last year the car ran wobble-free after the usual 6 month winter sleep.

I hope to take the 911 on a good run to Loton Park on Saturday. It will be interesting to see if it is still wobble-free.

One thing the static parking over the winter does is leave the tyres in one spot, maybe even giving flat spotting that may re-conform to the rolling diameter once on the road?

i look forward to what you may find Gary. I think Hot66 still has his issues much the same too.

Fitted some new tyres on the back and swapped the others to the front after a fresh balance, however on my first drive out I didn’t go anywhere to actually try to find the wobble!

But on that first drive the squeaking from the rear brakes once per rev got to the point of embarrassment going through town. They aren’t worn as such and there’s no measurable run out on the braking surface, but I got a new pair anyway. You can see on the old discs the burn mark where I guess there is a low spot that was catching the brake shoes.

Happy to report now that the wobble has now pretty much gone, as has the squeaking!

Pretty sure it’s just the tyre swap and balance that got it, but I’ve done that before and it made no difference :)

So time for a four hour round trip out to my happy place in North Wales to bed the brakes and get a coffee :)

Nice spot, been years since we parked there.
I thought Wales would be full of Midlanders!

On the wobble, is it at a repeatable certain speed?
Mine was 70mph every time which made it all the more irritating.
Have you checked the shape of the tyres? (ie jack up and slow rotate the wheel and check side wall movement etc)

A few weeks ago my Skoda started to have a noticable lateral wobble at 30/60 points.
Turned out to be a mis-shapen tyre due to pot hole impact.

Fresh tyres all round (more than one tyre mis-shapen) and it is back to new.

The front tyres I replaced were pretty well worn, but they didn’t have any obvious damage.

Fingers crossed it says gone as I’m off across the Alps later in the year and we will be putting the miles in big style before we get there. :)

Luckily the wobble went away after the new tyres and rear discs.

What is interesting is after the abuse the brakes had on the Dolomites trip I’ve got a least one disc with a sight warp (you can hear it squeaking) and the wobble sometimes returns after heavy braking.

Did you install the ball joints correctly? (see Youtube video link above)

I've seem that before, but it is interesting that the replacement fixed the wobble.

I have been 'lucky' enough for my 70 mph wobble to vanish without doing anything after lots of checking (but not the ball joints).

That revelation was a full year ago or longer.
