911 - how serious is it if numbers dont macth these days?
Hi all, been offered a 911 at good price as the engine has been placed into another (had 10k spent on it and is now in a track car). The owner inserted an 89k engine and has had a total top end rebuild at specialist. My question is: does it matter when selling Porsche's on if numbers do not match?
The engine is a like for like replacement i.e. still a 3.2 and has the original G50 'box attached. What sort of money would you expect to pay? Bodywork and interior is basically imaculate (not had a specialist check it yet though).
Cheers

Quite intrigued what LSC means as well!
I would use it as a haggle tool to pinch the price. Is it RHD/ LHD, any damage, situation with shockers, brakes, clutch, gearbox sunchros, alternator, starter engine, oil cooler and lines, rust at bumpers, a posts, door posts, sunroof and and and
If it all tallies up, depending on mileage, about 750 less then the usual market price?
Pistonheads has a white 3.2 carrera for under 10k!
(wished I went for that instead of a beautifull brittle carrera 3.0!!
)
Best regards,
bert

We need far more information to put a vaule on a car. Year, mileage, colour, spec, L or RHD, service history etc etc. I would be asking a lot of questions as to why the engine was removed, for instance can the seller verify that story or aerhaps the car has been stolen at some time and the motor take out? A perfect RHD 3.2 Coupe is worth up to £17.5K, but with adifferent motor the same car could be worth thousands less

Derek, cheers for clearing up what the LSC is.
I have seen the original engine: Basically, the car I am interested in had £10k worth of engine mods done to it and has been tracked twice. The owener wanted to do a full RS conversion on this car but the specialist had told him not to as it was in such good condition it would be a waste. Instead, he fouond another shell, prepped it as an RS track/hill climber and dropped the engine in that he had already spent the money on tuning. Makes sense. I saw the track car whcih is why I got talking to him in the first place so i can verify that and the engine numbers etc.
The car I am interested in has done 139k miles but the engine dropped in has covered 89k which can apprently be verified (not seen that paperwork yet) with a full top end rebuild. It has been more or less stood for a year with what I can gather, short runs taking place whenever a dealer came to view it.
The bodywork is said to be inmaculate - some work was done on the rear lower quarter to sort a small patch of rust by a specialist at a cost of £400. The interior is just as imaculate. The specialist that services the car describes it as an 80k car as opposed to 139k. But dont they all say that...
Not had a proper inspection done on her but I am spending a few hours the weekend to check her out then decide whether I will go the next stage of having a PPI done. Its is a right hooker with PSH and specialist history. Comes with original bill of sale too.
