New Exhaust System Advice - 1989 Carrera 3.2

Post by FLY 7 »

Looking for advice.

I have a 1989 Carrera 3.2 - low mileage, all original, FPSH

I'm having the underside cleaned and protected by Dinitrol, but the (original) exhaust system is looking quite old and tarnished so I asked Porsche for a quote to change it.
They have said that the Porsche part is not available, but they normally replace with the equivalent Dansk system.

I'm happy with this, but not the price - £4,250 !!!!

Anyone have any worthwhile recommendations for a good, close to OE stainless steel system - or better pricing for Dansk.

Much appreciated.

Get heat OE exchangers from the likes of Type911, sports muffler from the likes of TT Exhausts and have an independent fit it all. Should be about half the cost or less.

Expect the exhaust studs to be like twiglets or snap when removed, an experienced indie should be able to handle this as there are jigs that make it easier for the studs to be drill out if they snap. Best would be to cut the old heat exchangers off just short of the flange which then allows the stud nuts to be cut off.

Even your low mileage car this could still be an issue.

Matt at Type911 will be pretty much the best price for an all in one parts solution. You then just need to kind who is best for fitting. I'm sure there will be some more suggests.

+VAT so £2k, you need to know what Lovetts plan to charge for fitting, or just go elsewhere.

plenty of specialists not to far from you ( cotswolds ) . As Nige says, you shouldnt need to pay that kind of money that Lovetts have quoted.
