Another odd Email 'issue' advice please

Post by 911hillclimber »

Over the last 2 days I have been getting replies to emails to suppliers I have made weeks or months ago. My original emails have been reserected, given the current date and obviously sent to the supplier somehow.
That supplier has then apparently relied in response always the day after.

I suspect this is a scam.
One such instance (but none of the other 4 received from different people) had a BIG RED warning right across it stating this reply was not from the system and should not have any link opened or the email replied to, ie it is a scam/virus thing.

The others have not.
In all cases, the reply / sender address is from the supply company.

Any thoughts please?

The email system I am using and have for 5 years or so is Thunderbird that looks and operated like Microsoft ad is free after any level of donation.
It was installed by the local computor repair shop way back.

It sounds to me like someone has access to your emails, I would immediately change your password.

You should be able to check most recent logins to your mailbox, Google it for your email supplier, there will most likely be some from abroad recently.

Agree with others, change password and run a virus scan. A couple of questions...
What do the email replies actually say?
Who supplies your email service? Probably your broadband provider or is it gmail?

Thank you all as ever.
Have just changed the pass word.
Had another episode an hour ago. A plating company I asked for a quote some 2 months ago suddenly have replied.
My email was dated yesterday, their reply today. The reply was a very detailed quotation exactly as I had requested.

Hotmail.com is the provider.

Will now run a virus check.
Kaperski says a quick virus scan (3000+ files) and nothing detected.
Will now wait to see if the new pass word has stopped this event.
If not I presume it is something internal not external.

All these sudden emails are where I have not recieved a response from the receiver.

Some Email clients (the piece of software you're using to send and receive emails) now have some inbuilt AI which looks for email you have sent with a question but have not received a response.

They then flag them to be followed up and some automatically send the chase unless you switch it off. I know the latest IOS updates on iPhone and iPads have included this.

It sounds as though you have an auto follow up on.

I know my email client on iPhone has started doing this and I turned off 'Follow Up Suggestions' in the settings

Does it go as far as resending emails on one's own behalf then?

It does if you've got an auto sending preference turned on. My IOS one turned it on when it updated and I had to turn it off

Hi Graham,

It sounds to me that your original emails out didn't send until the recent events you've described, hence why you've only now received a reply.

Can you see the original send date/time of the emails in question in your Sent Items around the time you believed you (originally) sent them?

If not, it sounds like they might have sat in your Outbox until something changed in a recent interaction with your Thunderbird client.

You could also login to hotmail.com of course and check the inbox/sent items there to compare with what the Thunderbird client is saying...

Cheers,

Chris

How do you find and then if needed cancel Auto follow-up?
All these (now 8 of them) emails show my questions being asked a day before the reply, ie my original emails now have a day-before today date to them so the receiver thinks I've just sent it, hence their response.

How do i find this auto follow up?
In settings or device set-up or somewhere else.
thanks so far!

Yes within settings - not familiar with your Email client but should be a setting in there somewhere

Look for 'Follow Up Suggestions' or something similar

Thank you, just been through every section in Settings, nothing there on follow up etc even using Search box.
I may well take this PC to the local repair man for his to sort.

Could be as above - sat in your outbox for sone reason and then sent but as I’ve stated this follow up function is new on IOS and other email clients do have it including Gmail
