Starter motor relay

Post by Peter Roberts »

I have read on previous posts and seen Utube film of fitting a relay to the starter motor to feed the starter relay. This reduces the current going through the ignition switch and is a neat modification that picks up the feed from the main starter motor cable so you dont have to run a cable from the dashboard to the starter.
Does anyone know the part number please for the relay suitable for 6 volt operation

I'm using one of these 6v automotive relays which appears to be nla:

I made the relay using the 356 Registry Technical & Restoration Guide volume 2 page 98, which is a reprint from vol 23-5 of the registry magazine (available on the Registry website). Let me know if you don't have either of these & I'll check if it specifies more than 6v automotive

I have one of these on mine. Cost about £20 and works well. You have to put it near the starter

As the one mentioned in my first reply is no longer available i have asked Roger Bray if they can supply. Awaiting an answer. The mod shown on UTube actually uses one of the end screws on the starter motor to mount it so lead to the starter solenoid is very short
