O?T Humber bike: New Project!

Post by 911hillclimber »

Winston's fault, all of it. Inspired by his vintage bike I thought a good Tinkering Project' this winter would be an old bike.
The era of Winston's is beyond my budget limit, so plumped for a 50's Raleigh/ Humber/Triumph etc town bike so popular from the 30's to the late 60's.

Wanting a sample that needs it all, a search on ebay found loads of them, mostly women's bikes, but won the bidding on this 1949 Humber with 4 speed Sturmy Archer hub, Sturmy dynamo in the front wheel (permanent lights on) and duplex forks, unique to Humber.
The original Brookes saddle is there in need of TLC and the whole bike is knackered and original.

It needs everything, but on the cheap.
I think I might even ride this next year.

I'll start a lazy thread on Members Other and see if there is any interest. Tempted to fit a Cycle Motor...

You may want to have a brouse on the Veteran Cycle Club web site; that is 'cycle' and not cycling so the emphasis is on the machines and not so much the riding although there are lots of rides throughout the year. The organisation publishes an excellent magazine with loads of stuff listed for sale. I have just checked through my yearbook and am surprised to find that Mr Teague is not a member.

Indeed I'm not, but the chap I work with is, and if I was I'd be tempted to buy more stuff, and I mustn't.
