Handbrake racket not engaging

Post by neilbardsley »

The handbrake doesn't stay up. No clicking. Looks like there is a tab which should engage into the teeth if the racket but has become rounded? 1) my manual doesn't have a diagram of the handbrake so anyone have a link? So I can check my thinking 2). If I'm correct can I buy the tab on it's own?

If not I could try to make one if I can copied one or it's 200 eur for a new handbrake ImageImageImage

As per usual GOOGLE is your friend. Do you have that search engine?

This persons video skills are on par with your photography, but it includes what you want. Basically just get someone to put a few welds on the end that’s worn away then file or grind the teeth back in again. The ratchet wears because people do not press the button when engaging the handbrake and just pull it up, so the teeth wear against the ratchet.

The bit you need is part number 901.424.508.00 (same as a 911 part)

Cheapest one to buy is here.......https://www.carpoint.de/en/original-paw ... _1333_2264

Ok part bought. Does the pin/bolt holding it in knock out or is it riveted?

Hi Neil,

I think it is a push fit and peened in place not sure you can reuse the old one.
Discussion about it here.

Many thanks for all the help. Turns out the part had rotated. Once I got it off it looked as good as the new part I had bought. Of course I then put it back on the wrong way so had to remove and reinstall again. I tried to punch the old rivet out but it only moved a bit so ended up widening the gap with screw drivers while Mrs B removed and installed it.

All working again. Test drive tomorrow Image
