Non starter

Post by sjm »

Hi all - my how I’ve missed DDK! I’ve not been on here for ages, but bloody glad to be back. Quick thicko question: my 356A would not start today. Seeing as this is the first time in 15 years of ownership that it has not started I’m not really complaining, but I would like it running!

The battery is about 5 months old and shows full charge. When I turn the ignition the dashboard lights shine brightly, the fuel pump can be heard doing its thing. But then nothing else happens at all. Nothing. No noise, no sound of it cranking, nothing at all. Any quick obvious things I should check please?

Thanks a million.

1. Whack the starter motor solenoid with a hammer.
2. Check the earth strap.
3. Go to the pub.

Excellent advice. I’ll start with number 3 and work back. Many thanks! :drunken:

Had this this weekend. If after the above advice. Check that you are getting 6v from terminal 50 (?) To the starter. When you turn the key. Then check you are getting 6v at the solenoid

Thanks all. After various tinkering it has now gone back to my usual mechanical wizards to be fixed - will find out more next week.
