floor colour - 1970T
What colour would the floor (and interior) have originally been painted on a 1970 car? Body colour or black? Based on carchaeology/forensics, it looks like mine was probably body colour everywhere except the tunnel. There was black on the dash with overspray on the orange dash top. FWIW mine was a Karmann-built LHD 1970T in signal orange.

I'm looking for a pre-impact bumper 911S or other high-revving 911 to restore - please let me know if you see one.

Have a look at this page of John Milburn's '70 2.2E restoration - shows where the black was applied to the body-coloured floorpan:

Re: floor colour - 1970T
Thanks. Can anyone clarify re the discrepancy in the two replies above? If in doubt I'll go with the orange plus visible areas black as per the 2.2E.

I think both answers agree - it's just that a few areas received a 'token' splash of black over the top of the body colour.
I think the logic was so that any body colour wouldn't be visible through any gaps in the carpet, etc

JohnM car is correct. My RHD 1970 911e build date 01/12/1969, vin 9110200175, had original interior, trunk and engine bay. The only difference being the trunk was lightly sprayed completely black over body colour. Note the floor deadening is sprayed body colour.

Re: floor colour - 1970T
On a slight side note, I need to check but from memory my extremely original 1970 shows body colour around the petrol tank and no black, unlike the JohnM car. I'll check when I see it next but I'd be certain it's as-original under there. I can't speak with certainty about within the cabin as I had to reverse some repairs in there.desert rat wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 10:42 pm JohnM car is correct. Rob, If you pm me your email address I can send you some photos. I'm no good at posting photos on the forum. It's not body colour under the sound deadening.
Stefan.

Re: floor colour - 1970T
Trying not to muddy the waters on this topic. However, my December 1969 built 1970 MY 911 S has never been fully stripped. The floor pan is body colour, the sound deadening material has no paint on it. Under the body colour is the grey/ green primer used by the works. Black in localised areas, as advised by Andy, is where gaps in the carpet are likely to occur ( and on the instrument binnacle and part of the leading edge of the doors). The front boot should have a light overspray of body colour ( although mine has been painted solid black at some point when the car was briefly black.

Re: floor colour - 1970T
I don't understand this as my 69 December built 911e's floor has never been touched . On removing it the floor was black I think from the deadening, but grey green underneath no body colour. You could see the imprint of the hexagon pattern left by the deadening on the floor. I have seen the floor panel of a untouched genuine RS with the same painted deadening and pattern. The mind boggles.

Re: floor colour - 1970T
Billy and desert rat, are you able to advise Karmann or Porsche body please?
Mine is a Karmann and would appear to be as per Billy's description.
There were bitumen pads on the floor, just left black I think. It's a touch tricky to tell as somebody had been over the whole floor with some yellow oxide type paint.
Boot is definitely original solid orange. Underneath is light grey underseal.

Re: floor colour - 1970T
Just following up with some pics of the parts of my car interior that do have original paint.
Orange parcel shelf etc. Light dusting of orange in the roof, with bituminous pads over the top. The rust-coloured spatter is actually sprayed on glue. Can't comment on whether it's original because my roof lining had been replaced before.
Black details at the foot of the B post / door slam panel.
Orange inside boot with Orange over stone chip below a certain height.
I can't be quite so certain this is original, but some kind of black / grey underseal within the wheel arches.
