I live in what must be England's biggest 'village' and the speed has always been low, variable and all that. I do not have fiber to my door, just to the start of the large housing estate.
There are a 1,000,000 kids all streaming in this area inside etc, so the band must be under pressure, but this slow response has been going for a month now, every day.
Going to chat with the village computer man Monday who knows this machine.

I'm on copper wire for the last 200-300 yards. Love to be fibre all the way. Good luck - nothing worse than computer/internet problems at our age...

What is this fibre of which you speak? How would a breakfast supplement improve my computer? 🤔
I don’t think t’internet has improved here since King Alfred burned the old lady’s cakes half a mile away in Athelney! 🙄

Only thing I'll add is that DDK is running faster than ever since the server move

Yes, and DDK is my pc reference for uploading, and it takes ages to to get to the home page, and sometimes 10 secs to open 'forum'

Not suggesting anything wrong with DDK site, just something wrong elsewhere that gives it a slow start.(and every other site i use too!)

Ok I didn't say it was amazing but fast enough that it's not the problem

Make sure you haven't got loads of stupid 3rd party virus checkers constantly running. Windows own virus stuff is ample for almost all home users.

Best thing to do is save off all your data, photos, files, etc onto an external drive then reformat the HD and clean install Windows and then just add software as and when you need it. If that doesn't work then buy something newer as it is a bit long in the tooth.

Mac's = over priced over rated.

But it's irrelevant really as it's more about the software you use/require.

The PC decided to go on a very Go Slow this week, so took it in for a check.
The hard drive was in "Limp Mode" (the shop owner knows I do cars, and not computors...).

He swopped over the hard drive to a solid state replacement and it is ELECTRIC in speed, unbelievably quick so chuffed.
All in cost, £150 with 12 months warrantee.

Happy with that and so pleased it is so fast.

Good outcome!
I've had one of those computer weeks too! I have a rather belt and braces setup with a NAS server, another that backs it up and a third to back the second one up! The third is supposed to be off-site, but not quite got there yet. I had two concurrent problems which it survived but took some time to diagnose and sort out!
