Racing Ridgways at the Classic

Post by gridgway »

Some will have caught my hints on other threads, but we are racing at the Classic this year!

We will have our F2 - March 742 in the F2 races in the mornings and the Elan for the Saturday pm pre-66 race.

I have only done 18 minutes in the new to me F2, so I'm not trying to do the Elan in case I get confused! That will be Jen plus our race preparer Tom Smith sharing the 50 minutes. Technically we are the 53rd entry of 50 so on the practising reserve list (which means we get to qualify and wait), but I suspect that there will be a few drop out before.

We will be based in the multi-preparer area (not sure where that is yet) if anyone is around and wants to say hello. Look for the blue Elan and the rather striking yellow 742.

Anyone else here competing?

Graham

Presume you mean the Silverstone Classic Graham end of the month.
Not competing but will be there in the on-looker section!
The rear suspension on my Lola is off a March 742, be interesting to look at your drive shaft CV's!

I think Mark Goodyear will also be in your race.

Good luck with getting on the grid!

8) Is there any other? But yes, Silverstone. Look forward to seeing you Graham. You know Mark then? He's a very friendly chap! We race the Lotus against him too.

Yes, know him well.
Ex hillclimber going back decades, has been an instructor at Loton Park Hillclimb School too when I organised it, then jumped to the very dark side to go round and round and round and round...

Hope that Silverstone will be far better than Oulton was the other week!

Today it started. A beautiful sunshiny weekend with two 25 minute test sessions. Except it rained! Then almost but not quite dried for each session. There were 5 red flags across the two sessions and I managed 3 timed laps between out laps and in laps. But I'm slowly getting the hang of the car.

For some reason the dogleg 5 speed box send hard for by brain to sort out, even though that's what the 911 has.

Amusing incident of the day was that the Silverstone marshalls somehow started letting the next session out while we were in full swing. Very strange in a single seater going past a Dodge Viper into Copse!! Then a Ferrari challenge car into Stowe. Then the session got canned!!

Quali in the morning, hopefully dry on my new slicks!

Thanks all! Not long to go until quali.

If anyone is here and wants to say hi we are at the old pits, but in the paddock behind, not the actual garages.

At the end of the row, just where the petrol station is. Green truck and 3 f2s (well one is an Atlantic).

Well that exceeded expectations!

Ended up 6th at 2:00.2, which is only 2s off the fastest time the car has done at Silverstone on the hands of a very capable driver.

Not bad for the first time out!!

Now for the race!

Good luck Graham, a friend of mine Richard is there in his white Elan #28. Says there are 60 odd cars on the grid!

That's the race that Jen is racing the elan where she is still a reserve driver and there's not many retiring!

I did my f2 race, more detail to follow. Was as high as 4th until I got caught out by a back marker. Completely fabulous other than that in my first race!

We're just next to the petrol station in the outer paddock to the old pits Graham. Yes, knackered rim and tyre
