Re: another 73T Targa restoration thread
If it was me, I’d be tempted to stick to the original Porsche blue. I’ve yet to see an original period Porsche blue I didn’t like

Re: another 73T Targa restoration thread
the bracket for the pump is massive, seems so ott, imho leave it and clean it off as much as you can.
Good to see a real spot welder used!
Man after my own heart. I did my shell in 1988 and hired a spot welder without timer but a large box of arms, did a very large amount of panel replacement with it.
Clean and no grinding after.

Re: another 73T Targa restoration thread
I checked in the front corner and on mine there appears to be a single spot weld under the horizontal flange, and into the corner there's a large mig or gas weld on one side. If that weld is on the other side, it's too flush to make out.
On one side the front seal support has a good 1mm - 2mm wide gap under its front edge extending say a cm backwards where you would be able to push something in, but on the other side it meets flush.

I'm looking for a pre-impact bumper 911S or other high-revving 911 to restore - please let me know if you see one.

Re: another 73T Targa restoration thread
Thanks for these replies, very helpful and very kind of you! I can finish the front wing corner bits now...
Yes, the original colour would be great to have, and we could add pearl to the original colour if I wanted, which I think I do - but 100 paint suppliers would produce 10 different shades of blue I think. I think it is impossible to tell how it would look on the car without painting the whole car - a fridge or a bumper just wouldn't be enough to tell whether I like it or not, I think.... I've been thinking about it obsessively for almost 25 years now....
Dodge hydro blue pearl year 2021 is another stunning blue (in person), similar to what I think 334 should look like...

Re: another 73T Targa restoration thread
Dodge hydro blue pearl is very similar to the Peugeot Vertigo blue, and there are enough of those around to view in person?
Re: another 73T Targa restoration thread
I think I know the Peugeot blue that you mean, and have one local to me, but I think it is a completely different shade to the Dodge TRX blue. That said, all metallics look different in different lights... I have attached what seems to be the last remnant of the original blue paint, around the petrol filler pipe hole.
Just a quick additional question please - can anyone say whether this antenna bracket bolted to the back of the left front wing support is original or not (I just replaced the old seized bolt)? It has an M5 threaded hole and two short forks on the end. If it is original, can anyone post a pic of how the antenna mounts to the bracket please?
Hope someone can help, cheers, Dean

Re: another 73T Targa restoration thread
That's Ossi blue I think, although difficult to tell, and potentially a respray judging from the body colour under the bonnet so might not even be an original P colour. Anyhow, nothing like the special order 334 of 1973 but thanks for trying
I am still finding bits of the original paint, and have flatted and polished the lacquer to good effect. I am hoping that I might find it on the scuttle under two other colours (current blue and maroon or purple), and can prepare a large area for paint matching

Re: another 73T Targa restoration thread
After more than 20 years of occasional restoration, all the metalwork is done and the car has now arrived at the paintshop!!
Should be back in around 6 weeks, all being well...
A few pics of it on the trailer (I have 1000's of pics, but not so much time to post)....

Re: another 73T Targa restoration thread
These are pics of the 334 met blau (two are of the same car). I think only the Targa might have original paint. I think it might look good in bright sunlight, but otherwise...

Re: another 73T Targa restoration thread
A few pics during early paint prep. Doors, fr wings and lids to go back on soon for alignment / gap checking and further primer and blocking, repeat, repeat, repeat, eventually leaving the door hinge halves on the A-posts for painting and re-hanging the doors with the hinge pins.
Still not decided about the exact shade of blue metallic. Eliminated the Dodge colour as an option though...
