Re: My '72 911T
Ended up putting the original one back in... The new one has a built in regulator which I ran out of time to work out how to wire up!
I've ordered some new bearings for my original alternator as they both sound dry and rough, especially the larger one next to the fan. I'll get those fitted before Le Mans, but for now that low rev red light is just going to be a 'feature'

When a mate and I saw the car at Caffeine and machine the other week, we both said 'wow what a stunning car'.Gary71 wrote:Really must refit my front number plate straight…
I thought it was his ex-printer's OCD that got the better of him when he said 'that number plate is not straight'!
Wish I had your skills

Re: My '72 911T
My quest for an absence of glowing alternator light hasn’t concluded, but along the way I found the alternator bearings were, errr, past their best
Just replaced them alongside Le Mans packing.
Now spins easily without sounding like a bag of spanner’s!
Light still on though

That would be most kind, but only if you’ve easily got space John, not a lot of room left once you’ve got camping and sleeping gear for two in the car!johnM wrote:Hi Gary, would you like me to take my spare alternator?

I’ve got the swap out down to about 20mins now…

Re: My '72 911T
As the curse of covid has finally caught up with me I thought I'd edit a few pics and write up the trip to Le Mans whilst trying to do as little as possible!
This was the first time my Son has made the trip with me, fair to say he's a chip off the petrolhead block and absolutely loved the whole thing.
Lets start with my favourite pic from the drive down, James leading the drive, Barry and I following up in the line of skittles coloured 911s :

Re: My '72 911T
The week before was a bit traumatic with my son being quite ill with covid and although he picked up he was still testing positive until the morning of the trip...
We were in two minds if he should come, as his energy levels were through the floor, but if the last couple of years has taught us anything you only live once so off we went.
First stop was the tunnel, bit of a delay but the usual Le Mans car show in the queue made up for it:
The smoke inside the tunnel was quite amusing by the time we all parked up!

Re: My '72 911T
Our overnight stop was in Honfleur: Few shots (of variable quality!) from the drive down.
Stunning bridge into Honfleur, unfortunately the site of the first breakdown for Simon in his Targa.
Parked up at the hotel:
