Any recomendations for a mid-rise scissor lift?

I hope Sladey will forgive this question:

A ramp like his needs to be floor flush in my instance which would mean creating two recesses in an existing garage floor of unknown depth; the house I have was built in the 80's, the garage base and house base 'cast' at the same time.
How much concrete do you need to ensure the ramp bases are secure and stable?

I guess you need to drill the floor at the approx ramp base locations to probe and find out the floor depth?

Why would it matter ? If you get to "bare earth" - just keep going , and put in a new "foundation". Depth is not super critical ........... 2 or 3 inches is NOT enough , a foot is total overkill. Me - 2 inches more than the depth of the Rawl bolt would suffice. All figures are approximate - it's building not engineering.

On the car lift stuff:-

The lifts sit in a hole that is about 300mm deep (from memory) and there is a minimum spec of how much deeper than that the concrete needs to be - I think I’m down another 6 inches beyond that (can’t remember - but I know I’m confortably over the minimum spec)

You basically dig a big deep hole, make shuttering to create the pits you need (and interconnecting tunnels for cables and pipes) and then pour concrete around it.

There are a few long threads on US garage forums dealing with the install (I got mine from automotech; they got their directly from china - but it’s the same lift)

If I can find the instructions I’ll put up a pic of the spec. Once you’ve got a digger into your garage it’s doable

I paid the builder to do it as part of laying the whole floor

Totally doable without a digger too. Your slab will probably be 4-6 inches thick straight onto mud or a bit of hardcore. A day or two with a breaker and another day or two with a shovel and you’ll have two lovely holes.

Link a new damp proof with the old, cut a channel for wiring, ring a man with a concrete lorry. Sorted by the weekend.

I would not be doing it!

The whole house is built on huge piles due to poor ground (area was a water meadow) with a weird water table activity.

Going to look into the free standing ramps but fear they do not collapse low enough to live under the 911's floor.

After long deliberation I bought one of the scissor style lifts that look a bit precarious at first glance, but are actually very solid and you can do most tasks. I considered the drive over style, but thought it would require too many ramps to clear the underside of my 911. I use scaffolding boards for the race car, but I think a normal ride height 911 should go over the lift.

That's what I had in mind too. Who is the supplier?
What is the collapsed height please Ian?

Mine was too high for either car (though the 964 is at RS height, so not exactly a Baja. Hence I buried it in a pit…

Car lifts

I have to say though, Mark’s is more practical, goes higher and allows more jobs to be done. A scissor lift does limit activity underneath to quite an extent, especially if it is in a hole! For example, tonight I bled the clutches on both cars but resorted to axle stands

I have one on the surface, but with ramps to aid the lower cars … mid lift rather than full due to ceiling height and I wanted mine ‘mobile’ if need be . Mine will go higher if I remove some roof joists. Access under the car is great
