Drove the 914 to Litchfield last night for a very good meal. Ran great. Ready for CLM. However, it reminded me that I need to adjust the headlights. Done this evening. I will probably change the oil before heading to CLM at the end of the month to but the car is ready

Also painted the missing chrome from the spot lights for the 356. I'm not sure I will fit them but keen to get them workingImageImage

How is the rebuilt engine Chris?

Put some white vinyl on the front to hide some big scratches. Not a professional job but for £8 it will do. Compared to the£259+vat I was quoted. Then took the 914 to a Food Festival. It runs great when pushedImage

Fooking hell. The ups and downs of classic car ownership. One minute you are cruising with the too down. The next you notice a massive oil leak. Lots of oil coming out from the left side. I'm not sure how we made it back as the oil was very low. I only noticed it when we went to use the car again. I had a check underneath and could be the value gasket but I haven't touch them. The 356 had to take us out this evening.

Unfortunately, we can get this issue sorted before CLM

Part of its character they say.
Or maybe just marking it’s territory :)

We have:
Oil tank drain plug… now tightened it up ;)
Gearbox (various) - guess my quick rebuild wasn’t as oil tight as it might have been!
Crank seal: It had yet another new one recently so that little groove worn on the crank is still preventing the seal sealing.

Wipe it down. Top it up. Carry on.

Excellent- although I question if it’s as big an achievement than my Porsche day?

Good 1/2 day of spannering. Jacked up the 914. Then the engine lid cable broke but you can get to the latch from the boot. Gave it a good clean underneath. Zero oil coming from the tuna car certainly some oil come from both sides near the rocker covers. Tried to start it but my solar panel hasn't been charging the battery. Charged. Topped up the gearbox oil. Noticed the easy access to the starter and will fit a relay.

Filled up with the correct amount of oil. Idled it for a while then had Mrs B run at higher revs. Like Mrs Hill Climber finally she is joining in. No sign of any oil. Checked the level and it was the same as before. Took out for a drive and got the engine hot and still no sign of oil! Scratching my head. However, I did notice the left carb) manifold/head leak I thought I had fitted was back. Took it all apart, cleaned and reassembled.

Covered and ready for some sleep.

On a positive note the 356 starter great and ran great to a comedy evening in Market Harborough. Came out of the evening to find someone photographing the car. Pretty common with these old beauties
