I have primed the engine compartment mounting plate

Primed:

Part way through painting:

I need to sand this back as I hadn’t prepared the panel well enough. I know it isn’t hugely important but it is good to get things right.

It’s annoying you only notice the prep issues once you put the top coat on, happened so many times!

Good progress :)

Well I tried to persevere with the painting sanding back a little and trying to get rid of the imperfections. It was clear that I needed to get back to completely bare metal before starting again. It goes to show that cutting corners wastes more time than doing it properly.

It looks quite nice brushed but I think painted black is the go.

The Second attempt has been far more successful with regards the preparation and painting of the panel.

I have cleaned most of the units to be reinstalled and am part way through sorting out the short wiring loom and connectors.

Looks good :)

You can get new stickers for the electrical bits from Åke Olsson if you start getting really obsessed! :)

Yes quite pleased. I think I am going to keep the electrical bits as they are. I want to get the balance right between tidy and restored. There is a label on Bosch regulator.

The rear screen relay thingummybob also looks good:

I think the whole setup will look great when finished.

Good idea, I gave my CDI box a quick once over with a red scotchbrite to freshen it up, then hid the whole lot under a cover :)

I have been working on some of the bright work which got some wear and tear as is to be expected. I will be replacing the rubber mounting strips and bump strips but cleaning up the aluminium trim itself.

You can see the difference between before and after here:
Image

Here are the trims I will be cleaning up. I am using a series of sandpaper from 80 all the way through to 2000. I realise that these are likely to be anodised but they are scuffed up.

Image

I am quite happy with how the trim is turning out.
