Which also drives the restomod market as those youngsters who appreciate the looks of the older cars want a more modern driving experience

That’s a fair point indeed. I bet an electric swap isn’t much more expensive than a full rebuild and detail on a Porsche motor now.

probably not actually, but the driving experience isnt necessarily improved through an electric engine. I'd suggest its more of a compromise, so that you can continue to drive the car for 'years to come', unhindered.

Because the government printed so much money, people are sitting on large amounts of cash, which is depreciating in value circa 25% per annum so they need ways to get rid of their cash. That £300k seems like a lot of money now but soon that will be the deposit on a starter home.
Unfortunately some true in this. My son pointed out I would struggle to buy the house I bgt, and lost in the divorce, over 22 years ago! Hopefully we aren't the next Japan or back to the 70s

Thought I would post an update.

After seeing lots of advise over the last few weeks on this blog and speaking with a few of the UK 356 specialists I have managed to gain a much clearer understanding of what I need to look out for during my search for the right 356.

So over the last week or so I have taken the great advise on board, looked at a couple of cars off ebay, both had their positives but to many negatives to make them viable. So the search goes on, if anyone knows of any cars coming on to the market then please shout. Fully restored cars are out of my current reach so apologies to those who have contacted me with possible cars for sale, these are probably beyond my budget. Ideally looking for a project which could be done over some time.

Best

Mark, good luck with your search! Do you have a particular type in mind? Clearly most people will plumb for an A, but budget constraints force people towards a B or C ( both rewarding but not as pretty IMHO).

Once you have a budget set, you’ll know what you’re in for - either a shite box A or a not too bad B :)

Based on my budget a C is probably at the top of the list

I don’t think an A is what most will opt for. They aren’t as nice to drive, they’re slow, looks are subjective and there’s quite a big price difference between it and later models.

Most common is the B and for a bit more you can get a C.

I’d say an A is most likely the choice of collectors and not surprisingly the C is the best of the bunch because it’s the final development of the series.
