Post by phillip »

seeking assistance to change the windsceen motor on my 914?

willing to drive a distance......i am in manchester.

general lack of confidence, when messing around with fuel tank.

very willing to learn, make tea and look confused, with arms folded.

in no mad rush to do it right now as it still cold.

many thanks.

I can confirm the lack of warmth: as there is a car in the workshop, I'm relegated to sorting out MoT stuff on the drive: brrrrrrrr!!

I'm afraid I'm nowhere near you, otherwise would be happy to help.

You think that's ridiculous: I've spent a very, very cold (not to mention a bit cross) two hours trying to connect up the O/S washer jet, which was not connected. I can't get the thing out, to thread the new pipe up through the hole, and can only just touch the washer jet from underneath  . I was beginning to think the tank would have to be shifted to give the extra 1/2 inch clearance I need. Hopefully going to it fresh tomorrow will do the trick.

I've decided that of all of the merits of a 914, perhaps accessability is not one.

Hyjack over: moaning to be continued  .

I have the advantage over you there Barry - I have no heater motor, windscreen vents/pipes. This makes it a lot easier. Mind you, the windscreen does mist up rather when it rains!

Often the way isn't it? I went back out the next day, sun was out and generally a bit warmer. Realised the pipe needed to go on at 90 degrees, rather than the 45 degrees I thought, and before you could say 'cheap 914 for sale' it was on :) .

If you get desperate enough to employ professional help , the best person to do the job is quite near to you .
Mike Karavasili is based in Kelsall , Cheshire . 01829752597 or 07790 038465 . He is normally happy for you to help/watch/learn .
What he doesn't know about 914's would get lost on the back of a postage stamp .
He doesn't do work in exchange for just tea unforunately

thanks Tom.

i usually take my car to him, but have always felt that i should just leave the motor with him, and let him do the job. i do not mind paying but just wanna learn and get more confident around my motor.
