WANTED : HOW - TO Threads

Post by hot66 »

A request to you all :)

We have such a wide range of people on DDK, those who are very hands on all the way through to those who don't even own spanners

We are trying to put together a great technical resource , one which consists of ' How- To ' guides from the very basic to the very advanced.

This resource is growing, but needs more input ;)

So, if you are attempting ANY job on your Porsche, please could you document it with photos & a small write up :) It can then be added into the 'list' & become invaluable for other DDKe'rs 8)

We could do with everything from a basic oil change etc etc

Here are the tech guides we have so far :

Another board I use - well, I actually have one of the cars - has done a Wiki through a group effort (though lead through a lot of work of a few). Much of the info was culled in part from the message board (and an old Yahoo group)

Really useful resource....

http://www.sl113.org/wiki/Main/HomePage

Anyone can edit/contribute and as issue pop up on the boards, the wiki owner reminds someone to update any new solutions etc. People have done everything from full engine work through to changing light bulbs.

All 'how to threads' , no matter how basic you might think they are, are a great resource for others :)

Just a reminder for anyone doing work on their cars ... if possible, a photo 'walk through' of the job is a really useful thing to have for others tackling the job for the 1st time in the future.

Very good idea. The paradigm of virtue on this is the mgaguru who has more pages on how to do absolutely anything with an MGA than you'd have thought would be possible. Check is out if you're at all interested. http://www.mgaguru.com/mgtech/

You can read all the manuals until your eyes turn red, however, at the end of the day nothing imparts more skill and knowledge than lying on your back in a cold garage and smashing a few knuckles into that old git car that just won't go. Over the years you have to earn this knowledge,

Like I'm sure may users are, I was immediately drawn to the item on that list "clear bra material". Sadly it was not what I expected.

1988 3.2 Carrera backdate, Black
2001 996 Turbo, Lapis blue (am I allowed to put that here?)
I'm looking for a pre-impact bumper 911S or other high-revving 911 to restore - please let me know if you see one.

This is GavP’s schematic of the MFI cold start system and how to test all electrical connections and components. I can attest that it definitely works as we ran through all of it yesterday. Thanks Gav.
