Only do the front discs is part of the answer? Seeing that most of the braking is done there?

Ah, yes, sorry forgot that limitation Keith.

Fronts only doesn’t really work for hill climbing Neil, where time gain / loss is so critical that you are either on the brakes hard or on the gas. There is no time to even think about loading the front, transferring weight to the nose and braking progressively, you are either on or off. So locking fronts is the last thing you need, otherwise you are literally ‘off’

Really enjoying the updates on this and had an idea of what was coming when the sales list was posted. Your old 1800 heads are a good buy for someone - larger valves than stock ones and likely good quality hardware too! Would you mind sharing where you sourced the larger crank? Am also planning to buy one along with head work to increase the 2.0 914 valve size - will keep Rawspeed in mind if Stateside who are nearby don't fancy the work.

Looking forward to seeing the front brake developments - great to use new methods compared to what's typically done!

If you are going to use State side consider these chaps will be better value and top quality. Based in Lutterworth

We'll be doing the engine ourselves – the very first VW engine I built was a 1776 Type 1 running 48IDA Webers for a Beetle rally car, followed by a 2180 for Autocavan's rallycross Beetle. That was back in 1975 (how time flies!).

Pleased to read he is still here.
I’ve read he’s had a difficult few years. A few videos have mentioned his daughter died in 2014, at 19yrs old. Very sad and clearly it must have been a tough time.

Before hillclimbing there's always been drag racing...

Here's a little footage from 1994 taken at Santa Pod (in the days before good quality phone videos!). How I miss those times...

Indeed they were the days - I'd imagine I'm sitting on the bank watching that (or comatosed in a tent somewhere)

I sold it less engine to a guy in Belgium, who then sold it to a racer in England. It passed through a couple of other hands and more recently has been rechassied and re-engined and is awaiting its return to the track.

The engine was a VW Type1, 2165cc 78mm x 94mm, using a draw through turbo system based on a 48mm Dellorto carb and a Rajay turbo boosting to 28psi. Produced around 450bhp with a 50hp shot of nitrous. It was fun.

Great bit of nostalgia for a Wednesday !!

I loved No Mercy however I really liked the orange fastback

I still have the video of the 'grudge match' race between your fastback and the red 1303 !! both of you trying to look menacing when interviewed - very entertaining !!

Good times
