calling Scottish DDK'rs please: fuel

Post by 911hillclimber »

What is the current E10 or E5 petrol situation please?
In the West Midlands E10 is still here if you are lucky, all others are dry.

Wondering what the west side of Scotland is like for petrol?
Trip coming up real soon.

Not found that to be the case - was able to get Esso Synergy Supreme (ethanol-free) fuel locally to me today ...

I think the more remote you are travelling and the fewer problems you will encounter except perhaps the NC500 route which is still busy I’ve heard. Panic buying here might be a few cars rather than dozens and I’ve not seen any first hand. Local garage seems to have plenty of fuel just now but the squeeze might come if deliveries are held up much longer.
As an aside the four electric charging points I saw today were deserted. Time for an electric boxster?

Regards
Mike

Thanks all.
I will be reluctantly carrying 2 cans of e10 in the boot of the Boxster Just In Case there is a drought in the Isles of Scotland.
Every fuel station I passed going to the hillclimb this weekend (towards Wales) had No Derv signs at the entrance.
Now that so many have full tanks I suspect deliveries will still happen and stations will be ok.

Meanwhile the 'government' is still discussing/deliberating/planning ahead for next year for us.

They need to go on a simple '90's Management Course for Thinking Ahead, Reading the signs, Being Pro-Active and having a Sense of Urgency.

Oh, and 'Simply Do It'

Ran out of fuel looking for fuel yesterday.
3 stations before I ran out, 6 stations after. Finally found E5, but 2.5 hours wasted... Be warned.

Yes, it was James. Certainly in the NE of the city anyway.

The Boxster is FULL, just over the seal flap.
4 gallons of explosive material in the boot, no rear enders please...

Not going near Glasgow but will be in the tourist route, but not North Circular route.

Going to chance it all, suddenly a Boxster that does 34 mpg is a Good Thing eh!

Would take the 55 mpg Skoda but the real issue is Diesel round here, possibly the same elsewhere, so would be in a worse situation.

Anyway, Boris et al all use a bike to go to work so everything is ok in UK.co.uk

The BBC said there was a shortage of HGV drivers in the EU, so why would the Polish and others come running back to the UK who told them to naff-off 18 months ago, and they did.

Embarrassing situation for the Country, incompetence, and a drag on the UK getting back to work.

Hope it's sunny in Scotland. :drunken:

I now see this question all over social media from visitors planning on doing the NC500 route in the next week or two. Will I get fuel? Will I get home? Are the natives friendly if I get stuck? Does Scotland have an equivalent RAC or AA like we do in England?
You have got to laugh at some of the thinking going on. Not least the fact that people can’t even think how to prepare for a simple trip like this. It’s not like they are crossing the bloody Sahara in a Morris 1000.

Graham, have you a map showing all the petrol stations on or near your route?

Regards
Mike

At one time there used to be a members thread on here with phone numbers in a geographical spread across the country with help available at the end of a phone call wherever you got stuck. DDK spirit at its best.

I think it is exactly this Mike, and no one should do the NC500.

Yes, planning is the key and if anyone is in any doubt about it why risk the journey?
I just called in at my local filling station in the village to be told they have enough fuel for two weeks at normal rates and they are getting a delivery on Wednesday to top up.

If you don’t plan ahead……..

Thanks for that! Just ordered a copy as I once had delusions of crossing the Sahara in a 4x4-converted Transit van (don't ask)... :)
