By way of an interim update...

Forgot to include in the list above that I included a copy of my driver's license as proof of address/ID.

And as of yesterday the DVLA sez (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/dvla-corona ... plications) they're processing applications received on 13 August so I've got at least another 2 weeks to wait before I can expect to hear anything substantive.

We just had two registrations come back last week. They have taken about 8 weeks.

BTW. We always recommend getting an MOT if you can. That reduces the chances of DVLA requesting an inspection and further delays, as one of their agents has effectively just done that.

To save you hitting a link and going away from this page, here's DVLA's word on the situation:

i sent my completed form and relevant paperwork for my 57 Chevy pickup i imported in June last year, in on 6-5-21 to dvla.
they sent it back 20-07-21 saying i hadn't completed the form correctly, grey primer is not acceptable as a colour--but that was the colour at the time--i removed the primer words and sent it back on 22-7-21.
i received a letter on 01-9-21 saying that Davies Motor Engineering on behalf of Applus car testing services, on behalf of DVLA need to inspect my vehicle.
I called them immediately and they responded by booking it in for inspection on 14-9-21.
The inspector called in the morning to arrange a time, and turned up spot on time (he had been to my place before to inspect a speedster).
he (nice guy) inspected the truck ,took pictures, and left.
yesterday, 22-09-21 I received a letter from dvla giving me the registration number and saying that the log book (V5) should arrive in 2-4 weeks.
HAPPY DAYS.
At Last.

Cheers
Ian

How long in advance can you submit for the 70th renewal?
I'm 70 the end of March next year, should I send it off now?

I don’t think you can apply much in advance. Apply for a pack on-line. I need to keep my 7.5 tonne licence to drive our 4.6 tonne Hymer and 2 tonne trailer, so had to have the eye test and medical.
Currently there are 11 months’ grace to apply after your 70th birthday.
I can remember when only old people were 70 ………..

I filled in/submitted an online application ~ 6 weeks before my birthday at the end of last year ...
& received my new licence less than a week later !!

Yes, they are quick at on-line stuff, but anything that involves a human dealing with pieces of paper is a totally different situation!

Today’s update states they’re working on the applications for first registrations of used/imported vehicles received on 25 Aug so 12 days of progress in one week - encouraging news.
