Case splitting

Post by tomgoodwin3 »

Right, staying on my recent engine theme I have an issue with splitting my case....

Jake Raby on his DVD shows how 'easy' it is to split, make sure all the bolts are removed, insert a screw driver between the crankshaft and the small seal at the front of the engine (making sure not to touch the sealing surfaces) and hey presto one split case....

...done that, the case budges 1 or 2mm but does not split.

Any suggestions? I'm aware of the total no, no of inserting any kind of wedge between the sealing surfaces.

Cheers!

Have you undone the one at the bottom of the crankcase hidden by the flywheel?

As above..I have a selection of cases well buggered by folk who did not remove all the nuts..

This is certainly your problem.

The bets advice is to celan it all really well, and make sure the flywheel and pulley are off..

There is one nut below the cylinder which is favouritew to miss..

Kind regards

You guys were right, I had missed one pesky bolt....

The internals are looking in very good condition:

What fueling do you run?
If it's not the factory FI I suggest bunging in a different cam/lifters whilst it's in bits. I had a Eurorace H grind in both my 1971cc & my 2055cc '2' litres. Giving the heads a bit of TLC will help with the breathing & power output too

It used to run twin dellorto 36's

I have a strong suspicion that stateside tuning built this engine originally so I'm gonna approach them with suggestions on how to beef up the power output.....some work on the heads is definately top of my list :-)
