Fan Belt Rubbing Degrading

Post by adrianscott »

Hello!
Fan belt rubbing against rear engine mount nut (top red circle) which is degrading the fan belt! Found the two nuts not attached to engine mount 2 months ago so this is a new scenario for the engine position ie nuts more elevated to engage mount!
With shims I cannot bring the belt far enough away from the nut: should the fan belt be in the most upright position possibe or not?
Don't want to - but could shave a mil or two off the nut.
Anyone had any experience of this? Any thoughts?! Thank you

No experience but have you tried putting some shims in behind the generator pulley to move out a bit. Do you have a 9.5 (not 10mm) belt? Might give you the clearance you need?

They most certainly aren’t the right bolts because they should be nuts like this

Thank you all. Didn’t know two types of belts existed!?
Incorrect bolts left side threaded all the way through casing!
Correct bolts on right hand side. Ironically correct bolts stick out further.

Hi Adrian,

Just a thought but is your dynamo sitting in the correct position, do you have the correct gasket between fan housing and fan backing plate for example?
