OT: generators

Post by gridgway »

Looking for a generator to use at race weekends when there is no power. Doesn't need to be huge, but should be quiet!

Anyone know anything about them with a recommendation?

Cheers

Went down a similar road for our Airstream

Ended up with a small Honda job that runs off petrol or LPG. EU10i

Nice and quiet, small and flexible

Hondas EU's are the top dogs then cheaper option are Kipors which get good reviews. I have a Hyundai Hy3000sei, I find it fine now ive done a bit of fettling but a lot of people complain that they are a pig to start. Mine does take a few pumps of the bulb and cranks of the key first start in the morning but I do need to change the carb which might fix this. Not sure if the Hondas have remote start but I find the remote very handy on the Hyundai (well I did until I dropped it in the river)

I had a Kipor - stolen from outside my camper on the Sunday night at CLM on the DDK site at Karting du Nord in 2014 I think . I still think it was the guy with the purple Lambo and not the gippos!
Who else remembers ? He left a hell of a mess tooo.....
Probably why I don’t want to spend much this time....

my boat neighbour had one of the Screwfix jobbies and it was nice and quiet and did what he wanted it to do(run a battery charger). I'm sure for occasional use of low power stuff they are fine, as with any generators make sure you run it dry if you aren't using it for more than a month. Depending on what you want it for a power bank could be an option?

Thanks all, looks like the 1kw Honda is about £800 and similar kipor is about £400.

I'll check them out.

Cheers
