Rocker cover finish

Post by GonzoBard »

My rocker covers are looking a little shabby. What are my options to refurbish them? They look to be chromed (dull, rather than a bright finish). Are they chromed from the factory? Do people paint them? Should there be a particular finish on the inner surface?

They were plated. Cannot for the life of me remember the finish. Not yellow cadmium. Think it was clear cadmium

Thanks Sean. Would that be inside and out? I had my overiders and horn grilles re-plated some years ago, would they be a similar finish to those?

Both inside and out. It’s a kind of raw steel finish Matt i tone/texture. Believe that some of the 356 covers were painted a mid grey on the outside only. If you are going to plate them make sure you flush them before they go anywhere near the engine as they will have been blasted and put in chemicals to plate.
Grills and overriders are bright chrome plated

i'd just give the outside a thin coat of VHT black spray, better heat rejection

I may do that in the short term. I fancy having them plated at some point, though.
