In truth, it is related to doing the 964 interior in a practice run kind of way

Hasn't been started for over two months. But started first time without issue and was idling within a few minutes. Went for a short blast to check all was well. Spring here we come!

Joy of joys, I took the car out for a right good ragging. What with one thing and another I haven't driven the old girl at all this year, and more recently the roads have been like salt pans but it's rained steadily for the last week and then with a bit of sunshine and a brisk southerly... I just couldn't resist.

I don't know what the rules are for hooning in a lockdown, I hardly drove the car at all last year, especially in that lovely sunny summer when there were no cars on the road at all and it would have been perfect... but the roads are so full this time round I didn't feel so guilty as I pressed on.

There's a guy in Harrogate who photographs classic cars passing by from a vantage point high up, (his flat) and posts them on Facebook so I made sure to drive past him. :)

Then back to base, drop the oil, ready for a tune up.

Went for a decent cruise on Sunday and had an intermittent front right indicator. Fixed it today. Someone in the past had fitted horrible clear lenses and rather than paint the bulbs orange, had jammed orange bulbs in instead. With a different pin offset. Popped a ckear bulb in, after struggling a bit to get the old one out, and yay! I have repeatable repeaters!

Went for 2nd safety inspection, all four previous fails were signed off but now failed on oil leakage...

Got the car up in the air and spent a good few hours cleaning the driveline, then had it idling for an hour or so.

Culprits were the usual valve cover leaks, annoying since I replaced the seals a few weeks ago, must be leaking between the plastic and steel inserts so will order some new ones tomorrow.

Then what I think is a less common one, leaking from all the threads holding the diff cover on the gearbox.

Got the car nicely warmed over this afternoon and spent a very pleasurable hour tuning the carbs. There's something very nice about listening intently to the fire breathing dragons and hearing their tone change infinitesimally as you turn the screws.

Washed and polished the 914. First time I've polished it in two years. Oops.

I know, I feel I let the side down. But I did only use one bucket and one sponge – none of this multi-bucket, mutli-sponge nonsense. And it was cheap polish on sale in Halfords.
