Help Finding a 911E

Post by RENNSPORT CLASSICS »

911E LUX 1st registered 11/08/73 as NSF 279M by Unity Vehicle the dealer, engine 6231445, chassis 9113200933. Original colour Light Yellow.

Any one know if it still exists?

A previous owner wants to be reunited with it if possible.

enq@rennsportclassics.eu if you can help.

So are you resurrecting this old thread from 2016?

Re: Help Finding a 911E

Four years is quite a while ago and new members may have joined so there is always a chance. I am always pleased to help anyone with an interest in locating cars and have successfully connected many owners with cars and engines for cars they have owned having accumulated records since 1984.

The information on RHD early 911s from 1965 to 1973 you all now enjoy and share I compiled over a two year period with a very good friend of mine from paper records at Porsche GB, we met every week. Some numbers were illegible I estimate around 5% but by a process of deduction we resolved most of the missing information. That fact the original registration number of this E is known was because of that effort by Richard and myself. This information, the supplying dealer and the factory production date plus other information is never provided by Porsche.

The supplying dealer for this car was unusual. Unity Vehicle.

In recent years I have also researched 911s that have rallied in period up to the early 80's, over 1200 cars. I have also specialised in the 1973 RS for 20 years. These are not the only early 911s that are being faked. I forensically inspect cars providing fact based evidence. An Italian Championship Rally car was such a car I proved was the genuine car and has since been featured by Porsche in Christophorous. Ditto a rally car driven by Walter Rohl. The point is some people own converted, updated and sometimes re-shelled cars that they have no idea of their history, so I am pleased to help when I can and often achieve results when others cannot.

If you have records of Porsches that you would be prepared to share with me then please get in contact at enq@rennsportclassics.eu.

Thanks for responding.

The car doesn't appear on the 911E.org website:
http://911e.org/registry/
I can imagine the previous owner's interest in being reunited with the car.

What information is that Mark? I am not trying to be clever or funny, I genuinely didn't/don't know. Is there a published registry somewhere? Many thanks, Robert

I didn't take offense. I crossed over to the dark side after 12 years running the PCGB Early 911 Register and became a trader. I never used information I had acquired due to my privileged position and I told the Club if one complaint was received I would retire and one and only one complaint was so I did. Integrity is everything. Some people not around then don't know or forget the contribution I made. I wrote the policy document that enabled people that were interested in running a register legally to do so and hence become a register secretary. From five registers it has grown to over twenty five. I knew much from my computer business of the Data Protection Act which helped. Privacy was in its infancy then. Now look at the world! I was invited by Porsche Germany to present my concept to 300 PCGB Presidents at the annual Presidents meeting in Stuttgart as the model they wished to adopt instead of hundreds of different clubs. Registers within a Club. Simple really, less admin. As a gesture of appreciation I was given the honour of a factory visit just for the UK Early 911 Register something they had never agreed to before as they only allowed Clubs and 20 of us in Early 911s made that eventful trip.

In 1984 hardly anyone even the PCGB stall warts were interested in early 911s. When I paid £9K for a one owner 1973 911E which incidentally in 1989 I prepared to concours standards and won first in the National Concours, the then club secretary to whom I explained about my excited purchase and how interested I was to run a register as a focus for like minded enthusiasts remarked "What do you want to do that for, you could have bought a really nice 911SC". I remember that so well and his comment years later when I arranged with three friends the very first Porsche meeting where 1200 owners parked in model areas for the first time ever (the venue was Brooklands) his immortal words the night before were "How are you going to pay for it all". I made the Club a profit of £200.00 and covered all the costs by selling raffle tickets.

Porsche Cars Great Britain at the time wanted access to the Clubs lucrative mailing list and I took the opportunity to lobby them for access to the paper records of all early 911s imported by PCGB from 1965 to 1973 and after years of badgering them they agreed. The arrangement was I gave them a copy on an excel spreadsheet. I was allowed to visit PCGB Reading and photocopy A3 brown cello-taped together hand written records and take them away for transcription. I gave a bound copy to Club also after two years. This has been used by subsequent Early 911 Register Secretaries to assist Club Members ever since. I made no secret of the fact I retained a copy for backup purposes. Now Porsche are reluctant to provide much information at all.

When I retired in 1999 the rang off the hook and I was asked to inspect cars, give an opinion and when I informed them of the work required to correct issues they said they would buy the car only if undertook the work. The rest is history and for 20 years I have project managed improving and restoring these cars doing some or all the fitting. I have also taken inspecting cars to a higher level pioneering the use of forensics as a tool to establishing fact based evidence across all marques. Initially I was not thanked or welcomed in any paddock, how times have changed.

There are also several lists of Production numbers circulating for RS's and I have a copy of the original factory printout. People have also been very generous supplying me with their own records as they know it won't be used for the wrong purposes.

To summarise I saw the opportunity when it was still possible to obtain information which hopefully many DDK members have benefitted and will continue to do so. Data Science is now a recognised profession and Data has become so valuable what I did back then would not be possible today.

Enjoy your cars whilst you still can.

PS. Anyone is welcome to passenger me if they test positive for true enthusiasm for Early 911s, the best Porsches that have ever been produced. (Negative Covid-19 test also required)

It was his father's car and has sentimental value.
