70 911 targa hoop trim differences?
Hello everyone
Got myself a 70 T targa and it's missing it's targa hoop inner vinyl trim
Just wondering if the inner trim for my 70 is the same on all targas or is it specific to early cars
Pics would be helpful if anyone can show me what it should look like ..I've seen an 80s trim which looks like it has rectangular grilles in it ?
Thanks Matthew

Hi Richard
That does help, mine is definitely missing . Can you tell me if the seat belt mountings are at different heights in relation to the vents as one looks higher than the other to me .when I compare this to other pics on the net it looks like the seat belt mount is at the lower end of that plastic vent
Also wondering if the soft trim on the front edge of the hoop us rubber ? I think it's in 2 parts so a left and a right piece
Thanks Matthew

Hi Matthew,
You can remake that bar from foam, bit of crafting needed and yes make it in two parts as it's easier.
Use something like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Extra-Firm-F ... Sw8D9bn35I
I'll have some vinyl if you need it

You can also see the two rubber front pieces in my ‘79 targa resto thread. I covered them with 3mm scrim and then vinyl. Happy to talk through what I do and / did.

Thanks Garry ,,
I assume you're talking about the 2 part rubber bit ? .. it's easy to copy something you've seen but harder blind ! ..I'm actually missing the whole part including the bit photo'd by deano
I think that rubber 2 part item is available for about 45 quid per side
Do you know if all say 1970,to late 80s targa hoops have the same interior trim or at least similar so I can adapt a later one?
Thanks Matthew
Re: 70 911 targa hoop trim differences?
The trim is mounted to formed sheet metal that has small louvres/slots built in to position it onto the tabs that stick out all over the underside of the roll bar. Then there are several moulded sections on the front and rear, and possibly around the rectangular grille - mine are made from what looks to me like horse-hair, not rubber, on my 73 (looks like rear seat cushion material, but is quite solid). I would suggest that it would be extremely difficult to replicate all of this without having one next to you to copy from...
There is one on Ebay as we speak. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-911- ... SwEK5f3gia
I think the hoop trim is the same up to 89 (apart from the switch to rubber mouldings at some point between 73 and 79?).
One thing I have just noticed though is that the holes cut in the rectangular speaker grille thingy for the seat belt loop, seem to be at different heights. Mine is just above the centre, same as in Richard's pic on this thread. The one on Ebay has the holes cut near the bottom - strange, the seat belt anchors are welded on....
