Minor Service Cost on Porsche 997 C4S - Staggered!
I've just asked for a quotation for a Minor Service on our 10 year old 997 C4s from my local Porsche Main Dealer
OK included in the price is a PDK Fluid Change but the quotation came back at £1,347 - All operations were itemised but not individually priced.
I am an Owner / Director of a Cornish Main Dealer Motor Group so I know how these things work, the cost of the parts / oil and the labour times involved but I fell off my chair at this cost.
Looks like I'll get it done at my local specialist - Williams Crawford

Don't bother with OPCs on cars like this, indies give far better service IMO and realistic prices and you can speak to the Mechanic rather than someone thats sat at desk thats probably never seen your car.

I've no idea in this specific case, but I have a slightly different view on Indies. I have experience of many of the known names giving quite sizeable quotes or actual bills, so you still have to pick and choose quite carefully. An indie estimate I saw last week of £500 turned into a bill of £1000.
Re: Minor Service Cost on Porsche 997 C4S - Staggered!
Ive always used Tony Wright at Wrightune, I recognise its not local for you but im sure other independents are similarly priced.
See below but Minor service on a 997 Gen 2 £245.

I have found an indie for my Boxster, a good well known name and it will be going to them in Jan/Feb for service and MoT.
You can wait for it in a clean warm room and when in progress you get invited to take a look under the car, chat about anything found (or not) and get an appraisal from the tech who is about to finish the job and drop the car to the ground.
All costs are one figure, the figure inc parts + lab and that is it.
Good receipt for the service folder and if required a list of DIY or thinks to be done to keep the car "sweet".
Their place is nothing flash, just clean and straight forward, overheads low and a keen focus on doing the job properly.
I like their attitude and the people involved so I'll stick with them.
As Graham says, you need to find your specialist and choose wisely.

Finding reliable Car repairs in my experience is becoming more problematic as I have heard more and more story’s of once excellent indies, with either the main man retiring with the new incumbents more concerned with art and grooming or the realisation that several oil and filter changes a day generates more profit than fault finding and repairs. Luckily I found Mike at MCE.

So true.
I fell foul of a local garage, generalist with a long history in the village that I entrusted my beloved Skoda Superb to for work outside of the norm.
It had recently changed hands to an 'Audi Specialist', and not a patch on the long time boss who retired.
Time change.
As to MCE, having met Mike a few times, looks to be the few left of first rate specialists.
I now use for the Boxster Zuffenhaus in south Birmingham.

Porsche are currently charging £1045 for a 981 6 year interim service!alfietom wrote:I've just asked for a quotation for a Minor Service on our 10 year old 997 C4s from my local Porsche Main Dealer

I queried why the cost had more than doubled from the £500 I paid 18 months ago to service my wife's 981 on exactly the same service.
I was told the price hadn't doubled but Porsche OPCs have recently stopped applying a 50% discount to the fixed price plan! You can't really make this up!
I tried several other OPCs and the prices were all the same within a few pounds so there is no competition within the network.
I recently had a dealership main service on my '17 plate Skoda that cost £150 and at the time I thought the service experience was so-so.
In hindsight compared to the OPC service it was actually highly competent and definitely good value for money. The OPC was woefully bad but I'm too traumatised to go into detail.
Find a good independent, preferably one where you are encouraged to talk to the technician who is working on your car and I'm sure you will get a better experience and a better value one.
