maverick
noun
1. an unorthodox or independent-minded person.
2. an unbranded calf or yearling.
Origin mid 19th century: from the name of Samuel A. Maverick (1803–70), a Texas rancher who did not brand his cattle.

Blue = Austin A35
Ford Escort I think is correct for the estate. here was also an Esquire in the same design, not sure of the differences.
Both before my time, but loads in the scrap yards when there were some!

You're right about the Escort - it was the basic 'estate' version. The up market one (it was all relative!) was called the Squire (without the first 'e').
