Just turned 62K John, so a reasonably used Boxster, about average I think, 5/6K per year.
They have a lot of badly engineered features, esp parts that corrode, steel against aluminium with salt water and heat, mild steel nuts on underside of the car right in he salt spray of the road where stainless should have been used.
Poor quality on a very expensive car.
When working they are superb, but the Must replace List is long.

no coincidence Porsche's now one of the most profitable car manufacturers. Following through with the '73 FLA car for life study might've been an evolutionary dead end (though Henry Ford was in favour of this as I recall)

Re: What did you do in/on/for your Porsche today?
Worked all day in the Slow-Cook oven of a garage getting the Lola-Porsche ready for the first hillclimb of the year for us and at Shelsley Walsh no less.
Freshly cut slicks, fresh oil in March but never started. Hasn't run since end of last September, but fresh fuel and on the 3rd 3 second churn it fired and ticked over at 1100 rpm, just right.
Got the trailer all cleaned and greased, battery charged, about ready to go!

Re: What did you do in/on/for your Porsche today?
Popped over to a fellow trusting, helpful DDK'r to borrow a pair of touring seats to try in my old 911.
Fitted them when back, and I have to say very impressed.
We shall see over the next weeks if Mrs Hillclimber agrees, but first static fitting gave a good result.
Many thanks to the DDK'r for this help!
These are the seats temporarily removed, passenger side of a pair and my hillclimb FIA seat which is superb.

They look great Graham, but hey I might be biased
Re: What did you do in/on/for your Porsche today?
They do look good ... better than the race seats now the car is becoming more ‘street’

Been neglecting the 911’s over recent weeks so took the 2.4 out for an evening blast. These early cars are just so much fun

Re: What did you do in/on/for your Porsche today?
They take the car well to the Classic look, but I can't imagine hill climbing it again, doubt the old engine could stand it, not sure the old driver could either....
Very taken by them, hope to find they feel as good as they look (and fit).
The drivers squab height is about 2" higher than the race seat and obviously shallower, so I will be seeing if this works for me, I like to be well down inside a car, but it feels great.
The reclining back is wonderful (won Mrs H over) and the lever to break the back for rear access seems VERY civilised, been 23 years since I could do those adjustments.

Re: What did you do in/on/for your Porsche today?
It was interesting being on track in my lovely seats - BF Torinos. But they were appalling for track work. I reckon I had back ache after about 5 laps. If I'm going to do more, then seats with more lateral support will be needed. And I want to do more, the car was fantastic. So well balanced.

You need a real race seat, mine has been great, but not cheap.

I'll be listing some Recaro SPG seats in the Classifieds in the next day or so ...gridgway wrote:It was interesting being on track in my lovely seats - BF Torinos.
