Some fashion designer bought it. He phoned me about a month later to tell me that he'd put a 6.5" sat nav in the dash.....
I pops up around Shoreditch every now and then, covered in tree sap, shame really.

Re: The Porsche that started it for you - your first one or.
Being an avid reader of motoring magazines in the 80s and 90s, I regularly read that the 1973 2.7 RS was the best drivers car of all time. I loved the look and the idea of a usable, tactile road car with enough performance to thrill a petrolhead like me. I started working in 1993 and buying a 911 became high on my priority list. In 1996 I saw a lovely Viper Green RS Touring for £29k ......... and decided to buy a 1987 3.2 Carrera from AFN in Chiswick for £26k (idiot .....). I’ve had a 911 pretty much continuously since then ranging in age from a 1971 911E to a 2018 991.2 GT3 Touring.
Wife, 2 kids and 4 house moves later (now coincidentally down the road from AFN Chiswick!) I still wanted a 2.7 RS but feared I had missed that boat due to price increases. I decided a good replica was the next best thing and embarked on a restoration / project build which didn’t go according to plan. I was then lucky enough to stumble across my current car and after a positive test drive and inspection and a rather nerve racking collection experience, I was finally in the car of my dreams (or close to). I’ve since racked up a lot of miles, done some epic drives and made great friends. The car is part of the family and I don’t see it leaving any time soon and gets used as often as possible from mundane things like shopping and school runs to fun stuff like track days and European road trips. It is fair to say it has significantly enriched my life. An experience made all the better by DDK, the only forum I frequent regularly any more.

Re: The Porsche that started it for you - your first one or.
When I made the decision that a Porsche needed to sit in my garage alongside my VWs, I put the word out that I was after something in the £5-8K region. Looked at a couple of 944s, nearly went to see a 914 but it was Christmas Eve, so didn't bother. Left it for a while and then got a phone call from the late great Barry Curtis one morning. 'You still after a Porsche?' Yes. 'A friend in France is selling his 914/6. Interested?' How much? '£5000 should do it.' The car, chassis #9140431172, had been supplied by Sonauto and belonged to Valentin Kaiser, service manager at Sonauto in Paris. Trouble is, he didn't speak any English at all, but my schoolboy French got us by over the phone, and I arranged to fly out to Paris the following week. The car was stored in his underground garage beneath his apartment block, where it had sat for about 10 years. It was buried under loads of household debris, but when unearthed it looked pretty good. A deal was struck and I agreed to drive back out in a couple of weeks to collect the car on a trailer. Then began a four or five year love affair with a 'six', until a move to Cornwall was shortly after followed by a marital split and ultimately divorce, meaning I lost my four-car garage, home and spare cash... At least I kept my Carrera 2.7.
This is a pic taken on the day the car was sold to an ex-pat Brit in Germany for the princely sum of £10k – probably the only time I've ever sold a car for more than I paid for it. Sigh. Don't I look happy?

I remember passing a metallic blue 914/6 and Bay window camper several times, coming down the A30 through Devon and Cornwall one day as I was out and about in my works T4 van. Talking to young MacMath about it later in the day, he told me who it was likely to have been moving house to Cornwall ………….
I guess that wasn't yesterday either.

Re: The Porsche that started it for you - your first one or.
I think it was 1990 when my friend Jez Hoye bought his 1971 911T for £6000.
I really liked this a lot but £6k was out of my grasp. Roll on a few years to 1995 and I found a 1967 912 project in Porsche post for £1500. The plan was for Jez to have the engine for his 356A build and I would put a 911 engine in the 912. Jez got the engine sorted but I decided at the time it was too rusty and broke it up.
Here's me behind the wheel of my first Porsche:
Luckily within a couple of years I picked up my current car from Trevor Messett and Peter Andrews. I didn't realize that it would be 20 years before I got behind the wheel of this one though!
