Not really Darren's style, I don't think :)
That bit I know the answer to! I was thinking of the spec / colour of the car!
Lol, the cars sitting in the garage during lockdown was torture enough......driven it will be! :)

Visually #9092 is very much the look I want to emulate although spec will vary with half roll hoop, 110ltr fuel tank, Lollipop seats etc......and most importantly an RSR spec 300HP engine on slide injection looking more like this 8) .....

After an afternoon fretting over the right course of action I'm quite chuffed with a little discovery/observation tonight that qualms any fears we previously had.....

.....after a little lay off Barry got back to work on the RS today with the last major task on the spit being the pedal box area before going back on the jig for bumpers and flares :)

Now we knew the RS/R pedal box supplied by Ben Coles was for LHD cars and aware this would require some modification.....there were only 6 RHD cars built so this is most certainly what would have happened in the day......ultimately the pedal box floorpan area is being modified for twin brake cylinders like so.....

Image

.....Ben had suggested fitting the original pedal box and then creating some sort of jig to gauge positioning and alignment.......Barry, naturally, doesn't do things by halves....

Image

......only problem being that when the new box was in position the brake pedal was somewhat to the left! :? ....

Image

....and if moved right to match the original brake pedal position there was no way the base or brake cylinders would line up.....it just wasn't going to work :( .....

Image

.....as with the majority of Ben's parts they are replicated exactly from original items and there was no issue here.....

Image

Image

...now whilst Barry has no issue creating genius out of sheet metal he wasn't overly keen on trying to modify the pedal assembly blind and therefore after a bit of discussion we concluded that he would press on fabricating the floor area to match original RHD cars although with some concern about being certain this was correct!

To try and help I sent Barry a number of reference photos tonight including this from the restoration of #9092.....

Image

....I decided to zoom in the pedal box in the photo which appears to be exactly the same as mine.....

Image

....and then had my eureka moment when I did the same to the actual brake pedal itself! :P .....

Image

....this clearly showed that whilst LHD brake pedals are nigh on vertical straight up above the pivot, for RHD cars the factory fabricated a sizeable offset to the right to bring it over to the correct position.

Ultimately Barry would have been doing the correct thing all along but nice to learn what was created on these RHD cars to enable us to replicate the same :)

Now I can sleep easy :)

Goodnight.

Lady Luck smiled on me again today when a super rare item that I feared might take years to find turned up within a month of looking! .....

.....this right door mirror was only ever fitted to 6 RHD 3.0RS cars along with a handful of Australian spec 74-75 Carreras.....never available in the UK I reached out to fellow enthusiasts I know in Oz, one of whom came back to let me know of a specialist who had three in stock although refused to let them go, however I was told he might do so if I could locate a rare RS part for him :? ......

.....with this in mind I put out feelers to see if I could find this RS part to bargain with.......one dealer of such Porsche parts said he two such NOS items in stock but was keeping these for his own projects however when I mentioned why I was looking he said he might be able to help and sent me this photo the following day.....

Image

....and collected this morning at an incredibly fair price 8) ...... the mirror will need to be stripped and coated black but is the exact part I was looking for.....

Image

Image

.....it's funny how things turn out.....if it hadn't been for the Australian specialist holding me to ransom there's no way I would have enquired locally for a door mirror I thought I'd have difficulty find on the other side of the world, let alone one that was being kept safe for me only 40 minutes from home!

I feel a Kylie song coming..... :P

Cheers,

The fuel pipes are a work of work on their own with the clips and the siamese pair in the middle, looks fab!
Mike,

Nice work - what diameter are the fuel lines (7mm and 9mm?) and where did you buy them from?

Are those rubber washers isolating the bracket from the body?

Thx

I'm really looking forward to this project.

Back in 1983 my dad took me to a motor show at Earls Court.

On the Porsche stand the 911 Turbo had a list price of £33,877.94, I still have the price list but I don't need to refer to it to remember that.

Upstairs however on the Autofarm stand there was, for me, the car of the show.

It was the red, ex JCT600 3.0 RS.

The price was £36,000 which, in hindsight, was a bit of a bargain.
It is slowly getting hotter, IB hot rod build.http://retrorides.proboards.com/thread/ ... orsche-911

I went to visit Barry this week for a quick catch up.....I left four and half hours later but it seemed like 20 minutes!

Deserves better photos but most of the modifications are complete and, as ever, Barry's work is pretty insane 8) ......

....for a guy that likes precision and works to the millimetre, I dare say this part (and my expectations/requirements) will test Barry's resolve to the limits :? ....

How do you/Barry set the arch centres to the wheels?

I've seen some line the torsion bar hole to the torsion bar tube in the shell, then wheel base dimension off the rear peak to the peak on the front bubble arch.

Is there another way?

....I personally have no idea Graham...

....at the moment we're at a bit of a crossroads. The plan was(is) to fit the bumpers and weld the flares to the front wings although Barry has to fit the rears at my place as it wouldn't get out of his workshop with the rears on as his workshop door is too narrow! ......

.....we've been given a couple of basic dimensions as reference points however my flares and bumpers, as good as they are, don't correspond with these which is causing Barry a bit of angst! :?......now all of these cars were hand built and no two are alike, I'm even reliably informed they vary from left to right, however there are basic characteristics they all share and with all the effort that's gone into the car it would be a shame to get the flares wrong......ultimately a big part of how the car will be judged and therefore critical!

I've put out a cry for help and I'm hoping we'll have a far better reference source soon......we'll certainly get there but Barry is a man who likes precision and this final process is anything but precise!

Cheers,
