Case repair now finished and on its way back to me - very pleased to get the chance to put the original engine back in the car - last pic shows the before and after. What a difference. I'll vapour blast the "good" half when i get all back - might also reshape, round off so to speak, some of the hard right angles that are were not present on original cases - we'll see.....

Looks a wonderful result Robin, congrats :thumbright:

Do they guarantee that the integrity of the case is sound?

Sometimes you've got to go with your gut feeling, certainly speaking to Alan I knew that knows his stuff, proper engineer but spoke in laymans terms. He's done dozens of these repairs on alloy, magnesium etc, he reckoned my case was one of the more straightforward jobs- so only time will tell, but he hasn't had a failure yet. I believe his is one of only two companies in the UK doing this kind of work i.e. digital scanning, then cnc mill the part, then lazer weld in to place. Remarkable when you step back and think of the process... Here's hoping and only time will tell.........

Engine cases back home and time to get Mervyn Johnston to build the engine. First issue was the condition of the cases - a tad dirty. Looks like when the engine let go that the cases were just sat on a shelf and had never been properly cleaned since, and what with, laser welding, media blasting etc. etc. need a thorough cleaning whichI in entrusted to Colin at Ultra Vapour Works in Mallusk NI. Engine was liquid cleaned in various solutions, plenty of debris found then final vapour blast to bring up as new. It will be slow progress, not as there is little time, but todays priorities see my focus on business (or lack of)...

Enjoy the clean pics...

EMP charged me £3.5k - in terms of adding value to the car it's a snip. I'm not even thinking about value I'm just wanting the car back to original spec. I might once the engine is done then swap out the aftermarket suspension upgrades and a put all back to original. I'm tempted to get FIA papers for it...
