Alternator/Fan Re-assembly

Post by tanick »

A few questions:

I've been putting together a good fan/alternator/shroud combination out of two sets of spares. The 6 long bolts that hold the alternator to the fan - are they are under high stress? Each of the 12 I have is bent, twisted or stripped. Do these normally need to be replaced?

Putting it back together, the bolts don't seem to be long enough to attach the grey plastic finned thing on the back. Am I missing something?

I've polished (roughly) the fan and shroud. Should I spray it with something to stop it oxidising or simply paint it silver? I soaked my original shroud in all sorts of dodgy chemicals and now its white. I've sprayed it in oil until I get round to sorting it out. I don't one the one that ends up in the car to deteriorate.
