Set of 67/68S heads SOLD

Post by BD55 »

I have a set of 67/68 S heads. All six dated 3/68. casting code K1819c. Casting part number 901 104 305 0R. These are bare heads no valves or springs etc. Two have broken fins. Ports are 33/35.

I have taken info from this post on Pelican to identify these heads it looks like they are specifically 68S heads because of casting details. If anyone know's any different please let me know. Asking £600 including UK shipping or best offer

Thanks for that. They are not for me, so I will pass it on to person I was enquiring for. Not sure if he is now sorted.

They are '68L or T heads. All heads got the previous '67s valve sizes for '68. The 33mm inlet port sizes confirm they are '68L or T, not S heads.
S heads with their bigger inlet ports would be worth more, particularly if they were '67S ones, many of which are dated '66

Hope this helps
Andrew

Hi, not sure how this message ended up on here, as I was replying to your PM you sent me pointing out these heads you thought I might be interested in based on my previous wanted post.

No problem Andrew...Am i to take it that the info posted on the thread i linked to is incorrect?

''Specs for both '67 and '68 911S heads were identical, but castings were different. Model year '68 heads had cast provisions for air injection nozzles. Photo below is a '68S cylinder head, with cast relief for injection nozzle. US '68 model 911's were equipped with air injection, but there was no official US model '68 911S.

Original 1967/68 911S cylinder heads DID NOT have 36mm intake, 35mm exhaust ports, in spite of what some modern books state. The original port sizes were 35mm intake, 33mm exhaust. Second photo below is from the Porsche 911 Workshop Manual, page SE2. Unfortunately the metric port figure is a typo; the inch dimension listed corresponds to 33mm. I've never seen a factory publication, printed in the day, that lists the port sizes as 36mm/35mm for these early heads.''

Pics are in the link above form Pelican board.

Well I was under the clear impression that '67 and '68S heads had 36/35 ports.
Just checked 2 reference books of Porsche Engine data and they say the same.

I've had '68T or L heads before and they had 32/32 ports but measured more like 33mm.

I note you say yours measure 33/35mm. Maybe the larger exhaust port does denote an S head as your link suggests. Maybe someone ground out your exit ports.
I'm curious to know myself as Mr Dempsey et al seem to indicate 36/35mm ports for S heads and is what I have always assumed.

Maybe someone else on here can clarify. I've had a few '68T/L engines that were uprated but never an original '67/'68S engine to check.

I thought the same till I found this info.I don't think these are modified.. I have some 68T heads which are 32/32.
There is also a Y stamped on the casting that is supposed to mean a special alloy or something. Be good if someone has a use for them whatever they are. Cheers Simon
