Correct radio for a 1985 wide bodied Carrera

Post by Peter Roberts »

Just got my wide bodied M491 Carrera back from 4 years storage and am doing a few jobs to get it running and looking good
Noticed that the radio is not an original fitment.
Can anyone advise on the correct model radio that was fitted to these cars?

I don’t know about 3.2s, but 964s and 993s were shipped to the UK without stereos and they were fitted here, so standard fitment varied according to the dealer. If yours is a UK car it’d be worth checking whether this was the same on late 3.2s. I think it may have been.

Hey Peter, I think I've got some cassettes up in the loft, OMG I think there's an 8 track up there as well, better save that for the 356.

My first Porsche was a 1988 911 supersport cabrio in black with linen leather/black piping - to match my chalk stripe suit and red braces- a company car !!!
I personally ordered it from Dick Lovett and don't recall having to specify sound system so that was standard- I did specify aircon and cruise control [to avoid speeding points]
It came with a great Blaupunkt radio/cassette- I think a Hamburg- dire straits sounded really good!
I wonder where it is now..............
