I saw that - the CCTV footage certainly suggests the thief knew what he was doing...

I was wondering if that was the case, either that or the guy can hot wire without the need to get under the dash!

I spoke with Matt earlier and the CCTV footage he shows has been shortened - the guy was in the car, underneath the cover for at least 10 minutes, presumably doing whatever is necessary. We all know the wiring on an older 911 is easy to access – the thief clearly knew, too.

He is very familiar with an early 911.
He adjusts the seat without any fumbling, hesitation or even looking.
He feathers the hand throttle after starting the car to get a nice idle before (unhurried) slipping it easily into gear and slowly pulling away.
That guy has driven a lot of miles in an early 911 car, not just any old classic car thief.

Good luck for recovery
Regards
Mike

I do hope the owner gets it back complete, undamaged etc.

But...
There was a spate of London centered 911's stolen a few years ago, reported on DDK, maybe less, and I never read if any came back.
iirc they were all LHD?

Blimey indeed.....
If only the sun visor hadn’t have been left down, we might’ve caught a glimpse of his face to assist with his identification and subsequent capture.

I hope the owner had kept adjusting his insurance valuation to reflect the rising value.

I suspect the guy put the visor down when he was in the car, under the cover. He knew what he was doing.

He could be among us here... Scary thought. After all, we all give so many details away about our cars and where we live.

He also goes straight to the light switch just before driving away without any hesitation. It should be a 901 box in a 69E so it appears he puts it into 2nd to pull slowly away. Less noise than 1st, tickle the throttle and very gently away. Not easy to do as smooth as that from cold. He obviously opened the passenger door from the outside (under the cover) to get the drivers door open from the inside. I’d say he might even know the car personally but definitely familiar with an early 911.

Regards
Mike

Horrible- That car was so nice. I’m installing LoJack and a kill switch when I get mine going. Hope it’s found.

Yes the interesting aspect is this isn't a VW Golf R, the current favourite car to be nicked in the UK. Which with a set of plates off a regular golf it is basically invisible.

This is a dark blue '69 911 which you would suspect is being sold to other early Porsche people in Britain, even if you are selling it for parts, you are the target market as you guys pay the highest.
But as you have mentioned the knowledge of the controls doesn't shout opputunistic Chav does it?

Look into fitting a tracker that uses a feed off the electrical system that requires you to lift the car off the ground and remove something to access it, in most modern cars it is the primary feed to the electric fuel pump in the fuel tank.
But it is your own car, be creative and don't chat online about fitting it or not.
Most of the newer ones offer a battery tender app so you can see how your car is feeling.
Don't post pictures of your car outside your house/ village on social media either.
