Re: Off topic watch chat for the horologists out there
Hello Mike,
I found this site recently:
https://www.vintagespeedmaster.com/
All but a few of their watches have prices attached so good for an overview, etc.
I can't vouch for them but it's a decent website to look at Speedmasters.

I think I know the answer to this one but i'd like an experts view:
If you buy a watch at (say) £10,000 and 2 years later its worth (say) £25,000 on Watchfinder and rising, yet its insured on your household policy under general jewellery which has a max claim of £30,000, if it was lost or stolen what could you expect to get back? The original
purchase price or the current value?
Also are there any specialist policies that track with values??
Thanks

You'd get back the "proven" value - your receipt

Re: Off topic watch chat for the horologists out there
many policies index link the overall content value but on specific items, they will want actual proven value as noted. So unless you have a more recent valuation, it's the receipt.
Don't be fooled, the loss adjuster's job is not to work out how much you have lost, it is to reduce the loss to the insurance company as much as possible.
Great job title loss adjuster, makes it sound like they are working in your interest. They aren't.
Also, stating the obvious, value on Watchfinder isnt necessarily what the watch is worth. It's what they would like for it. 2 different things.

Re: Off topic watch chat for the horologists out there
Every policy I’ve ever had has a max value per single item as well as an overall amount covered.
On my current one it’s £2,500 per item, anything over that has to be specifically named. They then want an updated value on the named stuff every year.
Defo read the small print before buying the £10k watch.

Re: Off topic watch chat for the horologists out there
Although I still have my old fashioned mechanical watches, a Glycene and a LeMania single button chronograph, I haven’t worn them for years because I don’t need a watch and they’re all too easily damage. However I’ve had a hankering for an Apple Watch for some time now and yesterday a friend turned up with a spare one that he’d bought for his sister who didn’t want black. It saved me £80 amd I’m learning to use it.
So far I’ve discovered that I don’t have atrial fibrulation, that it can’t say if I’m having a heart attack, but that my static heart rate is 50, 107 when I’m walking fast uphil and that I’ve exceeded my exercise goals by lunchtime, though I didn’t know I had any.
It also works in conjunction with the Satnav on my phone and does a host of other things that I’ve yet to fathom out. It’s an amazing device and it doesn’t surprise me that Apple sell more watches than Switzerland.
My friend is very keen on his because of you fall over and don’t move for 20 seconds, it vibrates and waits another forty more before phone the emergency services in your area and giving them your location. He drinks a pint of beer and a bottle of wine every night and thinks he might need it and his chum fell over in his bathroom and knocked himself out. When the emergency services arrived, he was unconscious and bleeding badly, so it saved his life.
You think about these things when you’re seventy three and live alone although I hardly drink at all.

They are handy but I prefer to call them mini iPhones / iPads on your wrist rather than a watch

Re: Off topic watch chat for the horologists out there
It’s quite an eye opener to own one. It has measure my ECG and told me that I don’t have cardiac arrhythmia, that my resting heart rate is 50bpm rising to 98 on a walk while I’m travelling at 11.67kph and that I’ve exceed my goals whatever they may be.Bootsy wrote:They are handy but I prefer to call them mini iPhones / iPads on your wrist rather than a watch
Also, if I tap the dial, a Mickey Mouse voice tells me the time and calls me pal.
It gives me a weather forecasts tells the time in all the other countries, it provides points of interest while you’re walking and on and on, so quite a remarkable bit of technology and I suppose no wonder they outsell Switzerland’s watch manufacturers.
