Best tires in size 195/65-15 for 911 Lwb
Dear Gentlemen
After first weekend vintage rally on my 911 T 2,2 my 1970 on wet roads I definitely need to change tires...
Actually running 185/70 15 Blockley tires that initially satisfied me (actually few times driving in the rain)...they scared me with embarassing losing grip even on low speed turns...I wrote to Blockley and now waiting for an answer...
Tires are new (bought in 2016 but non running up december 2018 due to restoration not completed...) low wear, correct pressure.
I've been forced to buy 185/70 15 cause after resto I had to register the car and in Italy you must use the only size present at time of construction of the car respecting even speed cod "V" (up to 240)
This not allowed cheap solution of Vredestein 185/70 15 available only in "H" speed code.
Michelin xwx, Pirelli cinturato have stellar prices not morally acceptable (300-400€ per tire...with no equivalent value in terms of grip...) so I went for Blockley tires...with a good offer but not so cheap...125£ each.
Luckily I managed to get on car paper the omologation also for 195/65 15 tires size legally allowed and this size open many many choices among all brand of tires...
Too many...although now this size is now most dedicated to quiet citycars than sporty vintage car so tires have more features of quietness, durability and low consumptions than grip performance...
So I need an advice from anyone of you that is running tires in size 195/65 15 that should have:
- excellent grip on dry and wet surfaces
- soft mix
- sporty thread pattern
- quiet rolling
- durability doesn't matter so much
I would prefer Pirelli or Michelin but in this size they offer tires for small suv or citycars
I have a preference for Bridgestone that I had on other cars and satisfied me
I read good customer comments on Continental premium contact and Goodyear efficient grip or Dunlop sport blueresponse
Pirelli P6000 are Porsche n3 omologation so they cost 200€ each vs 45-60€ each of all others tires summarized above.
Vredestein sporttrac 5 and Avon zv7 are also in shopping list according to good customer feedback.
I would be grateful for advices and comments that can help my choice...this time too many options...

Hi Max, You’ll get as many passionate opinions on this topic as members on DDK...
I’ve used that size Continental Premium Contact in various forms for many years now. No direct experience of other types on an early 911, but nothing negative to say about them, therefore recommended!
It had 185/70-15 (possibly Fulda?) on it when I bought it, and the change to the Contis was a positive revelation in all aspects.

I’ve run Vredestein Giuorigino 195/65x15 which are very good. I’m surprised about your comments on the Blockley tyres as I used those, too, and was very impressed.

I’m running continentals on my 2.4S and I’m very pleased with them in the dry ... don’t drive it enough in the wet to be able to comment

To expand on my answer I’ve fitted Bridgestone Turanza T005 to my sons Mini recently (in a similar size) and they certainly perform well in all weathers.
I’ll probably go that way next time I change just to try something else! I fitted them as they were highly rated in tyre tests performed by the German magazines.

I believe the Vredestein Sprint Classic 184/70 15 are now available in V or W rating.

Dear all
quick update: after my mail to Blockley tires they send me a new set of 185/70 Vr15 for free trusting in their products and telling me to check suspension on my car.
New tires arrived, now on my car.
I think that the problem with former set was only that...they were old tires: when coming off the car (dot was behind, not visible) I read 2013... 6 years ago...I never run tires older than 3/4 years so prbably they were just a little bit old.
New set is good like I remember on dry road, not yet checked in the rain but I have to thank Julian of Blockley tires for the new set of tires and his focus on customer satisfaction.
Thanks for the attention
