I have just read this whole thread again.
It is a wonderful life affirming story.
I am glad it is now continuing.

Looks fantastic as ever. What’s the source of the repair panel for the floor? I’ll be needing a couple of those.

Gary, I could be wrong, this is some time ago now, but I don’t recall supplying any floor panel parts to Barry. I think what you see is all self fabricated.

On mine, which only needed fairly small sections at the edge, Barry asked me to buy the Dansk repair panel. One of the very few non-Porsche bits of metal we used :

(I don't think we used all of it, and I'm pretty sure there was some additional fettling).
Cheers, Richard.

Nice to see an update on Francesca Mike, watching the ruthless elimination of bodgery and making of all things good is so heartening

Good to see this area done so well, I have very similar issues that I bodged way back, and am tempted to cut out and re-do all due to these threads!
As ever, thanks for posting.
Those Dansk panels were not available in 1989 so everything was DIY for these repairs.

Re: Finnish Francesca, 1973 targa resto
Some years ago Barry phoned to ask about my holes. He knew My RS was late production (June 73) and still original. He knew that the sill drain holes changed shape (all the new panels come with the wrong shape) but wondered if the original shape went right through to the end of the F series cars. So, I sent him a photo of my holes and sure enough they were still the old profile. Fair proof that the entire F series were original shape.
I had received two ‘green’ sill panels still with the Porsche part number on from Mika as part of the spares package with the Targa which he had bought ‘some time ago’ thinking they would trump the newer panels for fit and originality. It turned out one had the round profile holes (correct) and one had the squarer profile (later) holes.
Barry has a little former for this job so he set to work.
As Barry said,
“The sills were backdated to '73 spec, although yours were already nearly there on one side, and already there on the other.
During the work I blasted the new sill drains to clean them up, and it became apparent that the original primer hadn't adhered at all to the metal. Therefore I gently blasted it off both sills, and I'll etch prime them instead.”

What shape are your holes?

Those early sill panels have been available again from Porsche for a couple of years now, although the drain hole is not present they seem accurate in every other way and are a good fit.
