Ball joint socket source

Post by Dean.s »

I'm planning on replacing the front suspension arm bushings and the ball joints. Having read the haynes book and looked on forums it appears that I need a special socket for the ball joints. part number 000-721-280-20 .

Does anyone know a supplier in britain to buy one from. other than porsche (if they sell them?)?

Hi

I think it is the same size as Renault/Vauxhall socket.

Lower ball joints:
I've changed them twice on my 73T.
WD40 and a good drift and lump hammer might do them, but I had to drill the castellated collar on one to open it out to a C shape to break the rust.
If you plan to fit new rings then this is the easiest way to remove the ball joint off the arm pressing.(imho.)

You can get new rings from type 911.
I tightened mine with said drift and lump hammer, the ring is locked by the spring disc.

All is well for years and several MoT's.

I accurately bashed, smashed and cut the old ones off. Then made a castellated socket to match the new balljoint by cutting a piece of scaffold tube to match.

Thanks for all of the info and offers to borrow. I'll double the measurements and try the sealey socket. it's a cheap punt and will only be used once, hopefully
