MFI 019 1973 Carrera RS pump
Some time in the autumn of 1972 Bosch supplied Porsche with MFI pumps which changed from magnesium to aluminium bodied. I have read that some of the first 1973 RS Carrera’s were supplied with all magnesium bodied pumps and then a few cars which had a combination of magnesium and aluminum pump parts as they became available. However, from the 23rd or 24th week of 1972 pump production the main pump construction was all aluminium. The pumps were manufactured with the week/year stamping in the body but were only fitted with the production aluminium tag when they were fitted to the RS engine. Therefore the tag date is always a few weeks behind the casting date on the pump body.
I have an all aluminium RS Bosch MFI pump for sale. The date cast on the body is 29/72 (29th week of 1972- July 17th to the 23rd) and a tag which represents October 1972. I think it would be safe to assume it was originally fitted to a first series RS Carrera and probably a very early one at that. Only the first 30 or so cars were built by the end of October 1972.
I have carefully stored this pump for many years with protection inside and outside and kept it in a sealed bag. I have never used it on an engine, it was always meant to be a spare ‘just in case’, the pump turns freely, it includes the mounting plate with hardware and the pump sprocket.
The relevant numbers are,

EP/RLA 1/51R
I realise this will not create a flurry of enquiries but it is rare and genuine and they don’t come up that often. I have not seen such an early RS pump on the market before. I’ve seen later production examples and I also realise that you can ‘re-create’ the 019 pump with the correct space cam fitted to a T or E pump but if the genuine article is required then I think this is a nearly unique opportunity. I’m posting on Ddk for a while before casting the net worldwide. It will of course fit any RS 2.7 engine from 73 to 76.
£7k. plus fully insured postage anywhere at actual cost or I will deliver FOC within a reasonable distance. Also, I could be tempted with any interesting trades.

Interesting item. Casting nunber and date clear; just curious how are you decoding the serial number when you say "23024376" "and a tag which represents October 1972?"

All is well. Hope you and of course your RS is running well. You will have the Bosch table for date codes I’m sure,
230 is for October 1972

Yes thought so but wanted to be sure as date code not always embedded. Sometimes Bosch build date separate three digit stamp not embedded in serial number
Based on comparison to other pump: I think your pump applicability is probably later than you've deduce /suggest - beginning calendar 73 maybe even into early part of second series. Lots of real world variables so hard to be precise but balance of probability I'm estimatingn early part of calendar 73 given comparison to my factory ( Fahrzeug-Auftrag) documented chronology and original pump on car.

Yes, bad terminology Ian, behind, after, later, following etc, but the dates are in line with what is expected. I don’t think this is likely to find a home in the UK Ian but thanks for you best wishes. Might be more likely in Germany or the US. but wanted to give Ddk first shout.

My main point being likely later than Mike's initial estimation of the just very earliest cars based on known comparator.
I suppose broader applicability to more RS probably helps chances sale of this item. As do discussion posts each creating a bump for Mike's FS post.
Nice item from what I can see. Not a criticism at all. Mike's listing detail is exemplary in giving great detail and insight. I just chipped on using 25 plus year owned car and its rare factory build papers at my disposal to give further input on his estimations.
I applaud Mike's dilligence on estimating date appropriateness of his item - it can be desirable of course as it is more likely to be faithful to original factory spec if kept as pare or needed to replace an item that went AWOL.

Peter, if I wasn't an impoverished working class lad from County Durham I'd happily pay Mike the 7k for this very nice MFI pump.
My first speeding ticket was right outside my uncle's Butchers shop in Tudhoe, age 17. Your neck of the woods iirc?

PS bit rich a lad from Co Durham giving Mike a hard time for a drop of Scottish rain; don't think I saw any proper sunlight until I moved away age 18-- miss the great NE driving roads though

Just a bump for this rare pump in case anyone is looking for a genuine 73RS pump.
FYI, I have several other pumps available including a hard to find 2litre S pump.
I also have a full set of ‘one year only’ NOS 69S intake and exhaust valves to go with the above pump. These are larger diameters for the 69S heads.
