Leather Dashtop ?

Post by LOTTEX »

My late 73 RHD G series 911 has the standard early 70’s black dash with the radio grill. Its got a typical crack in the vinyl between speaker and screen. I have been advised by a respected Porsche specialist that a leather covered dashtop was a factory option, it seems you could even have a leather headlining if you were willing to pay for it....!
If this is the case has anyone got a photo of a factory leather dashtop as apparently there’s a seam that runs along the base of the step in the dash and behind the instrument binnacle. Intrigued to know exactly how this should look.
Thanks,

Southbound trimming, who specialise in Porsche, cover dash tops in leather and make a double seam in the location you describe. It might be useful to give them a call. I had my 993 dash leather covered. This is similar to your dash but not directly comparable perhaps. It is also possible to recover your existing dash (once the dash is repaired ) with vinyl without the stitched seam although it is a bit of a pain to do. I assume you appreciate that to remove the dash top the front windscreen has to be removed first so re
covering the dash is not a simple exercise.
As to a leather dash being an option for your car I am afraid I can not help.
