looking for help wih 1.8L "AN" code engine

Post by WZU911 »

I am building a euro spec AN code 1.8 liter on Solex 36-40 PDSITs (originally from a VW 412 LS) however its been apart for a long time, and there are some subtle differences when installed in a 914. Would anybody have one of these 1.8 euro spec cars?. Need some help with finishing detail,ie vacuum hose connections, throttle cable connection etc. Detailed photos of an AN engine in a 914 engine bay would be really helpful.
Many thanks

Hi LMR,
Many thanks for the info, and I have PMed Canarydelia. Many thanks for the link to the 1.8L vacuum hose diagram but unfortunately it is for the L-jetronic fuel injected version.
Hopefully if I could contact an owner of one of the 1.8 litre euro spec cars, I would be able to glean all the information I require.
Thanks again

The same set up was used on the industrial engine. We had seven of them direct from the MOD.

We’ve got some bits left. Manifolds, airbox too I think. PM and arrange to come and see us if that helps.

That's a very tidy standard installation.

Hi Davidoft and Angus,
Many thanks for the picture and it reminds me of the engine exactly as I removed it from the donor 412 LS all those years ago. If I could get the same picture of said engine installed in a 914 engine bay, my queries would be answered. I do believe that there are differences. The Haynes manual shows the carbs reversed, with the carb crossbar at the rear of the engine, Fig 2.28 page 49, and Fig 2.31 page 50 ?
Any picture or info re above greatly appreciated.
