356 'S'

Post by alfietom »

Can anybody shed any light on this?
I've been made aware of a 'Barn Find' 356 and i'm considering it.
It's a RHD 62 car with Porsche S across the back, now I don't really know my 356's like I do the 911's but i wasn't aware of a 356 S
Can anybody shed any light?

Might it be an SC with the C having fallen off. You can search the chassis number to find out what it is.

I’m sure you should buy it if you can, because RHD is rare and they’re rather nice cars and great fun to drive. They’re easy to get fond of.

That looks like a very nice find.

Go for it!

Same as my RHD '62 BT6 Porsche "S". The SC was the C model. The image above has the bevelled edge under the gauges that is found on RHD cars.

.
The 'S' models had the 75bhp engine (std was 60bhp) - there was also an S-90 which had 90bhp ...

7021 813 is the original Engine for this car, although the records state that this engine was `Blown up` in September 1968 (Obviously it was rebuilt)

A lovely find and well worth buying.
The S stands for Super on the car and as others have said relates to the engine. The car is a 356 BT6.

My first 356 was also a Super, chassis 120898 so very close to this one. :)

Just to throw a bit more into this topic of 356B badging , I had been searching for a 356B Super 90 back in 1968 , was after a 5-6 year car .

Had seen a couple with 'Super 90' written on the back , ended up with a (63) car with '90' written on the back and did not believe it was a proper Super 90 .

I actually though previous owner had badged it up himself !

I did buy it in the end , it was cheap and supremely rusty , would have put a few of today's barn finds to shame .

As an update, this one is still 'Bubbling' along but it now seems the owner has been chatting to 'a bloke down the pub' who says its worth far more than it is.
It appears to have an amazing history and hasn't been used since 1972.....But the figure he asking is what I consider double its current worth.
