2002 Audi A6 Avant 1.9tdi - absolutely indestructable, I can't justify replacing it with anything more modern.

Also getting some winter use out of this...

2006 Mercedes ML 320Cdi commercial (no rear seats) currently has 320,000kms and is purely a workhorse. Tows the trailer, can carry two fully assembled 911 engines in the back.

My 'daily' - Lupo GTi, small, quick enough, economical.

All my everyday cars for the last 20 years have followed the same formula.
Only buy used, torque converter auto ( not electric ), less than 40k miles, full service history, one previous female owner if possible.
Last 7 years have seen a couple of Saab 9-3s.
Silky smooth and powerful petrol turbo engines, still a good supply of parts and ultra reliable. Current car passed last two mot's without advisories.
New car manufacturers must hate me.

/\ /\ /\ Lupo GTI - very cool. I owned one of them, six-speed in Reflex Silver. Drove it flat out everywhere and my licence paid the price. Six points in five days... Loved every mile of it, but my problem was the tiny fuel tank, meaning I couldn't even get to see friends and family in Surrey without filling up, which became a pain. Plus the boot's tiny, too. But would love another one. Hard to find one which hasn't been lowered on Design 90s...

Currently do around 40 miles a day plus the odd trip to Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Inverness

Although I also have one of these as the sensible family car (claimed by SWMBO)

‘14 Merc C220 CDI AMG coupe. Really good and comfortable car, 40-60mpg and excellent suspension, so softer than Boxster, but hard enough to make good progress without yoyoing in all directions on bumpy Brit surfaces.

My neighbour's just got one after a six-month wait. Looks lovely in black. Must try to steal the keys sometime...

We still have a Series 1 and ghastly it is, but it’s been in the family for decades and my niece has just used it for Wedding transport. She was shocked st how awful it is.

One day we’ll completely rebuild it, but other projects keep jumping the queue.
